The Boxing thread

He needs his belt though otherwise he loses a big bargaining tool. His profile in the US isn't that high and he's too good of a fighter to fight without gaining either a shed load of money, or a belt. He might fight Vargas given he's probably one of the weaker belt holders. Would like to see him fight Garcia personally.
Yeah, Garcia's the fight

He's suffering a little like calzaghe did... He's too much of a risk and not really a name in the states.. The reason khan gets the opportunities he does is because of weaknesses in his game, brook doesn't have many!!
To be fair to Khan as wel,l he has taken a good number of high risk fights, some which have worked out for him and some which haven't, but he's not been afraid to travel, and like you say, he has weaknesses. Fair play to him really, he's been chasing a superfight for 2 years now and he's finally got one. Not one he can win really, but it's a good earner, and provided he makes it interesting or gives a decent account of himself, the Brook fight is still there and that will net him a small fortune.

His level of opposition is miles ahead of Brook's. Think Brook would beat him though.

It's the IBF's fault this one. Making him fight god awful mandatories. Otherwise he loses his belt.

...and you really don't think that the promoters are in control of boxing at world-title level? Promoters and boxing federations are probably more corrupt than UEFA.

It's all about money these days. I remember the good ol' days of Leonard, Hearns, Hagler et al.
All hard as fucking nails and none scared to step in the ring with each other. Respect.

A little bit of romanticism their mate, there were more super fights back then, due to their only being WBA and WBC belts, but they also fought enough chumps themselves. For example Hagler had around 60 fights before he fought any of the other big 4.

Personally I think khan will be finished as a draw after this fight, could be messy...

You're right, his level of opponent and purses far outweigh that of brook, he's been marketed well through his career, which gave him the ins through association with golden boy, however, he's hardly a poster boy for the sport... Brook is twice the fighter, unfortunately his personality makes Philip schofield seem interesting, I don't actually believe brook when he spouts off, he's unconvincing and a little thick imo!!
