The Boxing thread

Very very hard to score that fight. I had ggg up by a couple, but I wanted him to win so I'm probably biased. I reckon most people would have had the guy they wanted to win, winning by a round or 2.

What I watched and what I'm reading here are two totally different things. I only had Canelo winning 2 clearly and another three draws. The rest to GGG. It was a boxing masterclass and he was picking off Alvarez all night. Workrate isn't scored just on coming forward it's scored on punches thrown and landed. According to the stats GGG threw 250 punches more than Canelo and was getting through with the jab all night. Although Canelo's punches look like they carry more weight, GGG was never troubled. If a jab that connects cleanly is a scoring point then GGG won that fight by 4/5 rounds.

A great fight, incredibly close. Canelo has some chin to withstand that onslaught. I thought he was just in front but either way, it was a close, close fight.

Just re-watched rounds 2-6 as it seems that's where the GGG fans think the judges got it wrong. Initially I scored it 4-1-1 to GGG with the 6th being even. Changed my mind on the third round and gave it to Canelo. Definitely 2-2 after 4, then 5 and 6 were really close. Stuck with GGG in the 5th and even in the 6th so for me it was 3-2-1 after 6. Even though they're close, that's a big difference between 4-2 to Canelo and 3-2-1 GGG in such a tight contest.

Billy Joe now the unbeaten champion. Would Canelo really take the fight before GGG again next year? Or would Golovkin go all in to get the belt in the UK, and take it as bargaining into unification next May then retire.

One thing is sure. Golovkin missed his his chance to unravel Canelo and I think he didn't have the energy at his age. It'll get worse in a years time. Gutted as he's a great champ.

Billy Joe has to come through his fight but he's got a chance to upset the division. I suspect he'll dodge GGG or Canelo and take a Sept/Oct fight against the winner.

Great fight lets hope they go again. GGG did enough for me, but some close rnds that can go either way. Canelo dosnt waste many shots and proved he's got a chin. GGG is a credit to boxing in every way.

Golovkin promised he would not let the judges decide. As a GGG fan he disappointed, but he is 36. Timing of this fight might be took late.

Canelo round again.

I have to admit I'm not sure. I think i have it 6-6 or 7-5 GGG. That first round could swing it for Golovkin.

I really hope nobody dares say Alvarez ran or I'm going to flip. Balls of steal moved up a weight to take on the most feared man at the weight above him twice.
(Meat)balls of steel.

The fight i had GGG winning by 2 rounds. He was done again in a tight fight sadly for him. I think its getting to a stage were some judges are being swayed by the crowd a Pro Mexican crowd every shot Canelo landed cheers. I would love it that the judges are locked away from the ring to score the fights at times.

Its starting to be sad to see the most important shot not being scored as a scoring shot in the jab. GGG dominated the jab yet it would make you think how many of those shots scored. Its sad to see at times as GGG out boxed Canelo with the jab for the majority of the fight on the outside. Canelo will always come forward to land the big shots and GGG never looked that much in danger. Saying that I also thought Canelo didnt look in a lot of troble of being KO'd every round he had that GGG jab to the head.

A rematch will more than likely happen and I hope GGG avenges his loss who knows these lads could go for a 4th fight if GGG wins the rematch. Thats if Canelo stays clean.

I don't see how anyone can be outraged, I thought it was a draw again personally but these guys go back and forth so much that swing rounds are inevitable. People need to give more 10-10 rounds IMO, nobody uses them(myself included haha).
I had this one closer to a draw than the first encounter, i though Canelo controlled the centre of the ring a lot more in this fight and landed a lot more clean shots than he did in the first one. That being said, he was peppered with SOLID jabs all fight and most of the second half of the fight was GGG. I couldn't make an argument for Canelo winning but easily for it being a draw or razor thin GGG win, it's not a robbery but it's not the correct decision either. The first fight was GGG by a mile so by rights this should be 1-1.

Boxing is a fucking joke, these judges. Why not have 11 of them you will get a better indicator of who won.

I watched it on an American stream, out of 19 "experts" 1 had canello, 7 for the draw, 11 ggg. If there were 11 judges, golden boy would just have expand their budget to spend more money on paying more judges

Agreed! That jab was fantastic from GGG, all night it was snapping back the head of Canelo as he was coming forward. It seems to me like a lot of people scored the bout on tactics rather than the actual shots that were landing. People saying Canelo was the aggressor and controlling the ring but GGG controlled the distance and he threw and landed way more punches. Even the power shots, of which Canelo threw and landed more, never troubled GGG once. Think it was the third round where he caught him flush and GGG just walked through it as if he'd been slapped by a 3 year old. In fact, the best 3/4 power shots came from GGG and he had Canelo in trouble a couple of times, although Canelo recovered well. Personally I thought it was a masterclass from GGG although I wouldn't go as far to say he was robbed, just very unlucky.

You cant be unlucky twice. First fight he should of won same with this 1. Opinions are great and when you have a tight tight fight its these opinions that will keep boxing ahead of MMA as it gets everyone talking. I would agree with the Masterclass not many fighters can put on a clinic and just keep it at long range. Maywheater , Rigondeaux , Lomachenko and Pernell sweet pea Whitaker all were brilliant at fighting on the back foot and made some great fighters look like shit.

RIP to Enzo Calzaghe a talented trainer. The guy had a great on his hands in his son Joe and also had Nathan Cleverly , Gavin Rees and Enzo Maccarinelli too. Didnt train loads but out of the 6 he did train he had 4 world champions.
