The Boxing thread

I got that badly wrong, and so did Warrington. No value in the odds I thought so did not bet, but Lara battered him, however would have lost on points looking at the judges on the previous fight so needed to polish him off.

The pawn takes the queen.

Plus he didn’t seem phased by Warringtons power at all, in hindsight that’s a bad match up
Yeah, he ate quite a few of Warrington's best. I was going to say he's too easy to hit in the early rounds but he was showing some head movement later on, so we'll see how far he goes I guess.

Josh Warrington after those 2 heavy knockdowns he will have it hard. People now know he can be hurt. I think Eddie Hearn must be thinking fuck I might need to slowly build him up again and see if he can recover after that fight. He didnt know what to do when he was in troble. He will learn from it but will he come back better than before thats the biggest question.

Some of the worst corner work I've seen in years,in big trouble at end of fourth and fuck all help or decent advice in corner and just sent him out for next round.

No shouting,no anger or pep talk, takes about 20 secs to get his mouth guard out,no visible use of ice,and gets a light swig of water just as he's away to stand up for next round.
Surely they should have been screaming at him to hold and protect as best he could to clear his head properly.
You would get better care and advice at your local gym.

The finish

Some strange shouts in the comments, suggesting it's Hearn's fault because they matched him too easy.

Firstly, he's not been matched easy, Selby, Frampton, Galahad in the previous 3 years is good going. Secondly, he signed for Matchroom this time last year and this was his first fight under them because of the COVID disruptions.

I do think this opponent was all wrong for him stylisticly, plus he hadn't fought for over a year(Dec 2019) and this was no tune up fight.

At the same time though, we don't know whether an easier tuneup was planned first or not, the fighter and his team decide ultimately. Warrington's camp could have been overconfident and fast tracked this one. They are supposed to do their homework on the opponents too and it didn't look like they did. He didn't even attempt to show anything different, so the gameplan was off from the start for me. It looked as though they expected to blast him out of there in the first 3 rounds.

Maybe this will improve him long term, bring a new trainer in and adapt his game.

Josh became frustrated over the last 18 months that his fight earnings hadn’t risen despite despatching Shelby and Frampton. He was still earning approximately a third of a fading Frampton for fights, despite being World Champion. Maybe the struggle to organise a lucrative fight had been an obstacle to Josh having a tune up fight or to pick an easier opponent.

Yeah there is that, there's not as much money to go around for the fighters as it is. So who knows what he'd have been getting for a tune up.

Josh with Warren he gets the right fights at the right time. When he fought Frampton I honestly think Frampton didnt look at his best at all. I know his training camp at the time wasnt great maybe took Josh lightly like Josh did with Lara last night. The reason Frampton gets the bigger bucks is he can bang a bit over the years and was in some fight of the year contenders with LSC.
I still think Josh might find it hard after those knockdowns both were really bad 1s. Its hard for a fighter to come back and be fearless after those heavy knockdowns. Look at Klitschko over the years he totally changed his game plan after being KOd badly to be more defensive and not take too many risks.
