The Boxing thread

Kovalev will give Ward a beating this time round. The decision in the first fight was horrendous, how anyone had Ward as the winner is beyond me.

It genuinely wouldnt suprise me. Mcgregors ego wont be able to handle getting a lesson in boxing from Floyd. Also for the money, they need a WWE style event that will leave people shocked and not bored at the predictable outcome.

McGregor won't give two shits if he gets a boxing lesson from Floyd. He's getting a payday that will set his great grandkids up for life and the outcome will not affect his standing in UFC.

Furthermore, the only way any fighter could gain proper credibility from this bout is if they beat their opponent in their respective sports.

Mayweather will win comfortably and act the dickhead as per. McGregor will call him out for rematch in a UFC contest and Mayweather will reject it.

I remember watching that at the time thinking kovalev did very little after the first few rounds. Although having said that, the only way you have ward winning is scoring EVERY close round for him and that's just cheating in other words.

Also, whoever spends a penny on Mayweather Mcgregor is a fool. They're conning the public to fatten their already fat pockets, that leaves a sour taste in my mouth and no chance in hell im paying a penny for it. Expect loads in the media building up to the fight try and make out how Conor has a realistic chance bla bla, don't know how such people sleep at night.

Sadly you are right i imagine, no one wins apart from the two fighters who line their pockets with even more money.

Too true, I have no problem with them earning money, but its a bit of an insult to all the lower level card fighters who give it there all and more often than not, give real value to a bill, with getting paid in respect of that value.

I think if Mayweather agreed to a UFC contexts, I would happily pay £300 pay per view for the privilege of watching that women beating *wat get destroyed. I also think around 10 million other people might be happy to pay the same. So I think when Mayweather has spunked away all his cash, it will be on as he'd get around $100 million for that fight.

Really? I scored it exactly the same as the judges 114-113 to Ward. I accept it was a close fight and could have swung to Kovalev but i think to call it a robbery etc is well off the mark.

Watch the fight again and check of the rounds as per these scorecards

They almost bare no relation to what happened.
Kovalev landed more punches in 6 of those rounds and one was a 10-8 to him. How you scored it too Ward is beyond me.

Ward to win again this weekend. He wont get knocked down this time and he will box Kovalevs head off. In the first fight it was the worst i seen of Ward so things can only get better.

As for Money v McGregor. Money should win easy. I will also say if McGregor catches Money cleans he drops him. Also at 40 will Money be too slow to be at his peak to keep off McGregor. Lets be honest with the bigger gloves Conors chin is durable. Might be a case the ref stops it rather then Money KOing him. As for McGregor gassing I dont see it fighting 5 , 5 minute rounds is harder than the 12 3 minute rounds he should be grand.

Lol'd at reading "money" so many times.

Mayweather McGregor. Plenty of hardcore boxing and MMA fans hating on this event I really think those who have got the hump about this event need to lighten up and either have no part of it, or just appreciate it for what it is. It's got feck all to do with boxing aside from the rules, it has no bearing on rankings, titles or anything like that. Likewise with UFC because if McGregor retires from UFC after this fight then the company will move on to the next star as is always the case in sports. Mayweather is retired anyway so who cares about his career that's already over. It's a simple case of having a good laugh at the press conferences when McG will give Mayweather an absolute torrid time, and then the fight itself will be what it will be, but I honestly don't understand the hate towards it as if it cheapens either sport in any way. It's a separate event in the name of entertainment and showbiz. Fuck all to do with 'hardcore boxing' unless you allow it to be. Same as most things, taking offence to something is a matter of choice. I don't go down that road at all, I will enjoy this event every step of the way and then move on to the normality of boxing once it is over with.

Ward Kovalev I think will go Ward's way by a wider margin, I'm imagining a 3 or 4 point difference on the scorecards in Ward's favour. He's so smart and now he knows he has Kovalev's number from the first fight I don't see him relinquishing that control and poise. Kovalev on the other hand looks pissed off this week, walking out of pressers etc, if he fights like a frustrated guy trying to poleaxe the other guy then he will be stood on his head for 12 rounds. I don't doubt that he feels aggrieved at having lost his 3 belts despite having not really taken any punishment, scored a knockdown himself and more or less been fiddled out of the fight over 12 very, very close rounds. But Ward knows he can look in control when the action is close. Kovalev on the other hand wore the look of man struggling for ideas in that last fight and I think we will see that look again this weekend, only earlier.

Going to be close but think Ward will pinch it. Krusher will look for the ko knowing he can floor Ward and won't want it going to the cards. Wards boxing skills against a heavy puncher makes it the perfect fight.

Sky sports 1 @ 10pm.
Tyrone Zeuge fights Paul Smith for a world title in Germany at super-middle. Not sure how he's wangled that, hope he takes it more serious than the Ward fight and didn't forget to pack his pans.

Sky sports 1 @ 2am.
Decent undercard, then the big one. With it being in Vegas, i reckon the ring walk will be around 04:30.. Worth staying up for..
