The Boxing thread

Well deserved Taylor, shanes done a great job with him. Glad it was on free tv, well played ch5.
Cracking fight, genuine "pick 'em" event. And free to air. Thought Taylor was wide open and would be caught by an uppercut, but he nailed it with a peach of a punch.

Davies threw plenty of fresh air shots, not seen him waste that many before. Got to give credit to Taylor who moved well and frustrated him. Glad i didn't have money on it.

Yep, was very hard to call. Just loved the fact I could sit at home, glass of wine, and watch a cracking fight without recourse to getting a stream through Bluemoon! Seeing Alex Arthur did remind me too of one of the best fights I've seen:

Gomez just walked through him that night.

Some scrap that mate, one of the best domestic fights i've seen. Like you said walked through eveything. Great book if you get chance to read it.

Met Gomez a couple of times. He came to The Hare and Hounds on Shudehill as guest of the City Centre supporters' branch. Great night. He'll never win anything on University Challenge, but you can't deny he made the most of his unlimited "heart". The best boxing night I ever saw live: velodrome, Hatton, Gomez, Farnell. Hatton beat Rowland. Think Farnell lost. Ricky destroyed Jason Rowlands. You just knew he was destined for greatness.

Loved that era. Manchester had some great fighters with the likes of Gomez, Farnell, Hatton and Brodie. I think Josh Taylor is the real deal and will become a world champ.

Yeah was at that fight with the mrs, farnell walked in holding up Roy keanes shirt. Takaloo saw red and ko'd him first rnd. Hatton was brilliant that night, also the last time i took a lady to boxing, turned nasty later on. Good night though, we got a lockin in the bradford.

I remember a few lads running around the track after Farnell lost; few racial undertones possibly. It was rammed, mad hot. I was back in the Hare and Hounds on Shudehill very swiftly after Ricky won. Saw him many times after that, mainly at the MEN. Great times, every fight a proper "occasion".

My favourite ever fight.

Mayweather - McGregor is a monumental money-spinning piss take.

There is something deeply unlikable about McGregor. I hope he gets destroyed.

I'd say the multiple convicted, woman beater is more unlikable.

Of course he will be destroyed, he's not a boxer.

Its good to see Frampton fighting on normal tv. ITV in his fights there he done generally well. The card isnt the greatest card in the world its limited. A WBC eliminator fight for a fight with Gary Russell Jnr if Frampton wins its another huge big pay day out in the US against Russell Jnr and who knows he may well get the Santa Cruz 3 fight too. So for Carl this fight is a must win no matter what then back out to the US. I would love to see a Selby fight but realistically its looking slim at the moment sadly think that would be a cracker of a fight.

As for McGregor v Mayweather the news conferences will be great to see. Sadly i dont get why the fuck 1 of the conferences was not in Dublin??? Makes more sense than Toronto or London but fuck knows why Toronto makes no sense.

Did anyone see McGregor at Toronto last night - must admit I laughed at him criticising Floyd for his outfit. I am supporting McGregor - everyone says he has no chance but we will see.

The comment about mayweather not being able to read was gold. Whether you like mcgregor of not, theres no way id be able to support a woman beater like mayweather.

"Dress your fucking age. Why have you brought a school bag on stage, you can't even fucking read!"

Mayweather "I make money"

McGregor "you owe money"

I've watched both press conferences. They are great entertainment, not sure if McGregor has a chance though

Ps the Q&A where Mayweather Snr turns up is comedy gold

Got to admit, McGregor is just what the doctor ordered for the stale world of boxing, no one is going to intimidate him, he definitely walks the walk and talks the talk!
The fight is another matter, no one really knows what will happen for sure, Mayweather has never faced anyone with McGregor's fearlessness and skill set. I know the bookies have him as a massive underdog, and he's being written off everywhere, and they're usually right, but it would be so good for both worlds if it's a close fight, and Conor gives the boxing world a bloodied nose.
