The Boxing thread

Broner is a 4-weight world champion so he can't be that much of a bum. He just looks like someone not that committed to the sport anymore. Too much too soon for him in terms of the success he had earlier in his career and he wasn't mature enough to deal with it and retain the hunger to pursue genuine greatness. There is major talent and skill there but if you can't be arsed then it's not difficult for technically sound fighters like Garcia to shut you down over 12 rounds. Even on Saturday night there were brief glimpses of the class Broner possesses when he could be bothered to let his hands go but not anywhere near enough.

I think Garcia proved he's certainly more than just a "technically sound" fighter(you're looking at a P4P fighter now), it's doing Garcia's masterclass a disservice to say Broner just wasn't trying. For me no matter which Broner turned up Garcia had more levels and made him pay for every little flash of skill Broner showed, he seems to have the right mix of boxing skill and iq... and he can bang.

£19.95 for Mayweather v McGregor
Thought it was going to be a lot more than that

Can't wait for it! Hope it is a real war and surprises people.
Yeah hope so, she's away that weekend so got mates coming over early doors for 12.30 City then 17.30 Rags on the box
Poker night and BBQ
Can't bloody wait :)

Not sure everyone will still be going at 04.00 though

£20 is crazy for the fight but people will pay it. I think they will get there moneys worth. I feel that its going to be a close fight but Money to win. McGregor will drop him then Money will get on his bike and hit and run.

Not that crazy really, that's just standard for UK box office shows these days. Especially taking into consideration the shows we've had to pay extra for in the past...Bellew-Cleverly 2, Haye-Harrison to name but two examples. A major and pretty unique show even if there is a hint of freak show and circus about it. It's certainly a one-off. If Mayweather had his way we'd have to pay nearly £100 for this just like the yanks have to so £20 ain't that bad really. I'll be watching on Kodi so not arsed anyway!

Garcia is a technically sound fighter at a very high level for sure and not any fighter could have shut Broner down like he did, he definitely deserves some credit for nullifying AB's threat but Broner's attitude in the interview after the fight said it all about just how committed he was to going life or death with Garcia to win what should have been a big fight for him and his career.

The previous guy tried to say Broner was a B list fighter. He's getting closer to that with each lacklustre performance he puts in but at the end of the day he's achieved a hell of a lot at a pretty young age so he is special, but on a slippery slope to becoming a has-been, which would be a shame.

Garcia you're right though, certainly in the p4p argument now, at least top 15.

He gained a lot of respect out of the fight with Joshua, and the way he came across in the ring afterwards. I suppose when you get to his age (41), that's a hard hard sport to be in. And I'm sure he's not short of a bob or two. He doesn't need the hard graft in the gym any more, not to mention the punishment you take in the ring, even when you win. Will he stay involved with the sport (training, promoting, media work)?

I was thinking he would retire after the Joshua fight, not because he lost because there were no losers in that fight. He performed better than anyone was expecting, rolled back the years and the fight itself exceeded the already high expectations, it was exciting and engaging one of those fights that will be talked about for years to come. He wont be able to top that, Vitali had the Lennox Lewis fight(Vitali himself would say that was his biggest fight in terms of sheer drama, excitement etc) now Wlad has a fight to rival it to look back on.
