The Boxing thread

It was interesting hearing what they said about why Eubank Jnr focused on his uppercut so much, something to do with a reoccurring elbow injury, maybe that's got a lot to do with the amount of proper KOs(he has plenty of TKOs to be fair) he has. I suppose it doesn't matter much to regular boxing fans as long as he wins but KOs are what gets the masses talking and that's where the money is. Just looking at his physique and his pedigree though who knows how many KOs he'd have if not for the elbow problems?

Sick of seeing fighters allow Eubank to lie on their chest long enough for Eubank to force the elbow in to open up their defence and then wind up them uppercuts. Such an obvious tactic. Groves will show that with a solid jab and decent footwork you can eliminate that threat straight away.

The Sky card was better than I thought the british title fight stole the show for me Lewis Ritson looked great and put on a great showing. Him in with Cardle would be a good fight or Masher Dodds and I think after that fight on Saturday he will only get better and better.

Conor Benn is progressing along great I would like to see him moved on a bit now. Needs a test sooner rather than later.

Eggington was out classed and being honest will be doing well if he gets back to European level again but he is still only 25 or 26

As for the big fight. Feel for Ricky Burns that fight up in Scotland and Burns would of got the nod. I had it level I couldnt split the 2 of them.

I hold my hand up about Eubank Jnr but I still dont think he will win it outsright.

I fancy Groves but it's a close call. I think his jab will dictate most of the rnds. Jnr will need to take risks and get inside it. Groves has the power to put him down, but if he can get close we know he's got some decent shots, especially the uppercut. Maybe he'll open Groves up. Groves on points for me.

He'll walk through groves jab, his conditioning looks top notch now.... groves struggles with fighters on the inside, it could actually be a quick fight imo!!

The American cards shown on Sky over the weekend were really good. Abnar Mares looked good at times but couldnt get rid of the Mexican he was fighting. Leo Santa Cruz won well against Avalos but the stoppage was so poor. Avalos still had fight in him to continue on. He was never winning the fight but he made it interesting. Leo Santa Cruz v Mares rumoured to be next it will be a real pick em fight. Shame Leo went against the 3rd fight with Frampton in Belfast as I really think Leo is there for the taking. I feel that Mares may well avenge his loss to Santa Cruz when they fight again.
Will always say this the featherweights could do a Super 6 as there is some great fights out there that could get sorted. Sadly we might have to wait to see them.

The other bill. The Austin Trout v Jerret Hurd fight was a close fight I had Hurd up by 2 rounds when the stoppage happend with Trout retiring due to his eye nearly closing.

The KO of the night went to Jermell Charlo in his world title fight with Lubin. Shame as I was looking forward to this fight with the needle in the press conference.

Then to watch the brilliance of Erislandy Lara when he is on form he is a brilliant boxer to watch.

Saunders is going over to Canada in Dec to defend against Lemieux. Could be a really good clash of styles that. Looking forward to it.

Caught up on some boxing last night a couple of things really,

Lara - class operator but too high risk low reward for the likes of Hurd and Jermell.
Santa Cruz - Looked poor to me, this version would get beat by Frampton with ease. Also wtf was that stoppage about?
Mares - I thought he looked quite good, would love to see him fight Quigg.
Hurd/Trout - Love watching Trout fight but he just didnt have the power to keep Hurd off, won most the rounds but had to work really hard to win them whilst Hurd just walked him down and he ran out of gas. Thought Hurd fought a pretty poor fight and got quite lucky that Trout emptied the tank. Jermell beats Hurd for me.

At least uncle Pat's a blue. Yeah great prospect, glad he's a local kid also.

Lol, pats the biggest turncoat there is, he was a regular on the Stratford end in the 80s, don't let the gold teeth fool you (:

Cracking little fighter, Zelfa, stays on the straight and narrow, unlike uncle pat, and he'll be a potential worldy!!!

Some of the decisions on Matchroom shows these days are a joke. Ormond swarmed Hyland there other than the early knock down.
