The Boxing thread

Some of the stuff Tyson said in that conference had me wondering if he is a little unsure of the outcome... he's talking of not living the life of an athlete, hates boxing but does it for his family, came into training camp 4 stone over weight etc? Getting excuses in early just in case? Wlad looks genuinely angry and fired up, he wants to knock his head off lol.

I want Tyson to win but I think it's poor form from Tyson and his supporters to try and discredit Wlads career by claiming the padding of the ring is suspect in his previous fights?(wtf are they even talking about that will effect both boxers more padding means they are better protected, yes it saps energy faster but again same for both boxers and it's always checked by officials) The hand wraps I don't buy into either he doesn't seem the type for one(generally a sporting fellow not a dirty fighter), he's big, powerful and athletic if he was doing that at his weight and conditioning it would show on the opponents faces far worse than it did with Margarito's.

Fury is a joke. To be that over weight is unprofessional. Klitschko I think will offer more but I still think Fury will win the fight. Feel he gets beaten by Wilder when they fight if they do fight. The press conference was a laugh. The Irish woman from Irish radio what the fuck was all that about. The mind games has started already from Fury regarding Klitschko. I think he is pissed off with Fury and the bullshit already and he hates him.

Did'nt Lenny Lewis say he seen nothing like it before after walking on it?...think there's a school of thought that suggests such extreme padding aint exactly fair for both fighters...especially if one is planning to stick and move a lot.

But the officials do check it though and it is the same for both fighters(btw did he fight much in Germany or Europe for that matter? They do things differently in other parts of the world and you have to adapt to it, simple as that)... how is that an advantage unless one of the fighters is that out of shape in which case he'd probably lose anyway? It doesn't fly(it's not cheating) if you ask me and poor form the whole spin they are trying to pull I'm not even a Wlad fan he's boring at times but I really don't think there's anything to this play they are making. It's actually annoyed me that they've tried to tarnish someones reputation with no proof, someone who's tried to act sporting and gentlemanly too by example(you have to give him that much if nothing else, our own captain gets plaudits for the very same traits), so it's not on really.

I've not asked lenny exactly where he's boxed, just figured if the amateur and professional world champion started spouting about it being seriously dangerous to a fighters ankles..then he knows what he is chatting about...that was before taking into consideration that he aint exactly bum chums with the Fury son or the father.

we'll have to presume if an over-padded ring floor does disengage a fighter from movement, then that's just unfortunate for Fury and Lenny should get round the world more before opening his trap giving his professional opinion.

I was'nt there to witness whether the hand-wrap was done on the unseen but Furys not shy of spouting it and nobodies called him a liar.

Well if only they had some people(you know like officials?) who check the ring prior to a fight come in and have the say on whether it's safe or not but I guess we will have to take the opinion of a retired boxer who's not actually boxed in a ring like that before. Also wouldn't Wlads ankles be fucked by now especially given that he's 40+?

I think the answer lyes in which fighter moved the most..Fury was'nt telling porkies when he said his right hand would'nt be hitting him...might have done if they kept the slumberland flooring but the gypsys were wide to it

I think you're reaching there they both have to move around the ring in an evenly matched fight(his ankles would be fucked if it was as bad as some are making out... saps energy fair enough but same for both fighters you can't get around it they are both big heavy men too) but it's all about opinions... they weren't happy with the ring themselves and asked for it to be changed just as any other fighter could have, it's the same thing with the type of gloves in fights these things can be contested prior to a fight as can a lot of things and it's not normally a big deal... unless you have an agenda which is how I'm seeing it and I've seen nothing from anywhere to change that so far but we'll see.

'Reaching'...Fury was all about movement in his challenge and klitsh was all about not letting go of his right hand..if you 'think' that's even-stevens then i'll keep your number incase i ever find meself in court..Goodnight.

ps...you would'nt need to use a lifeline up phoning a friend to determine if a sleepeazee floor would assist a mobile 27yr old stick and move merchant or a 40yr old two steps fwd 2 steps back herbert.

So you think Wlad is that one dimensional, bad footwork(stand still fighter?), body movement and is all about his right hand looking for a knockout? (no mention of his jab? Which is normally his best weapon in fights) Going to have to disagree with you again there sorry and again I'm no Wlad fan, I was very chuffed for Tyson at the time. He didn't throw much at all and the truth is nobody but him knows why anything else is speculation, personally I think he was expecting a different fight and found him awkward it wasn't a spectacular fight or a classic by any stretch.

Yeah...i agree....i think he was expecting a different fight (flooring)..i can easily imagine vlad was'nt exactly over the moon after discovering his jab was undone by a gypsy offering no gaurd and negating it with simple but unorthodox head movement (there's that word again)....obviously caring little if he looked like he was chucking an eppi.. knowing he had the formula. Perhaps he could have got set to throw more than 4 right hands if Fury would have kept stiller.....

I'm no fan of Fury but i know for a fact he can move in a way that belies his shape and size...he can move a lot better than he shown in that fight and if his ego gets drunk on it he'll knock 12 rounds of movement out carrying a derby

Yeah I'm backing Fury but I have a feeling Wlad is going to go for it, he might be getting on a bit now but he's no mug and he does have knockout power and a very accurate jab so I'm not sure of the outcome.

Makes me laugh all this stuff about the ring and the wraps. The house fighter will always seek to gain an advantage on any card. There are stipulated limits on how much padding there can be underneath the canvas just as there are limits on how big the ring can be. If a fighter suspects that the other side has exceeded those limits his team raises it with the sanctioning body and they deal with it. Naturally each team are gonna try and push things as far as they can - what's wrong with that.

With wraps a representative of the opponent is allowed to be there to ensure fairplay. On this occasion Wlad wasn't doing a Margarito he was just seeking to gain a mental edge.

I expect today's verbal jousting was pre arranged as usual. It's so out of character for a class act like Wlad to tell Tyson to fuck off that it must've been pre prepared. He managed to keep his cool when DelBoy spat in his face yet he's so angry about a couple of un PC comments that he tells Fury to fuck off in a room full of the world's media - no I don't buy it.

Wlad is such an upstanding, clean living role model that Tyson's camp could only come up with some totally meaningless accusations of cheating to stir the pot for the casual fan. The 2 female "journalists" who asked questions were obviously plants.

Expect more fun and games in the coming weeks.

Having the advantage of choosing what gloves are used or what ring is used is just that... an advantage if that's how they prefer to have things and do their best work with(Shall we bring home crowds into too which can give a fighter an extra gear and sometimes lead to home town decisions? They have to prepare for these things) but is it cheating? No sorry not for me, these things are agreed on before a fight by any good team which Team Fury clearly is.

Well what's going happen in the return is all billy bollox (opinion) to me, it's why i kept it to the seen 'the happened'....having the power to ko a bull dont mean a lot unless your opponent is fighting a matchpower game...no good having a knock-up in a phone box armed with a shotgun when your opponents got a revolver...Fury's uncle's tippled to how to undo vlads jab....which his unfortunate for vlad cause everyone knows what the jab sets up...

Agreed, pretty much how I call it too that.

He's in better shape then Rooney.
