The Boxing thread

What a cock and a hypocrite Bellend is.
He's always been a scumbag but you can see he was told to tone it down over the years as he was massively unpopular and wasn't getting fights/work. The reinvented Bellew managed to land a role in Creed.
But ultimately he returns to type.
He's in a division where there's no really big fights domestically, so he needs Haye to drop down. If I was Haye I'd leave alone and watch him become angrier and angrier like a starving animal that will take anything for food.
He'll eventually just wither and disappear.

My thoughts on the boxing this weekend. Ryan Burnett the boy is getting better and better some great body shots and combinations this kid has the potential to move up the weights and be a multi weight world champion. I think he is 2 fights away from a World title shot. Irish boxing is just getting better and better at the moment.

Luke Campbell looked great dominated dirty Derry and the way he won the fight you would expect him in a World title sooner rather than later. Him against Crolla would be ideal in a World title eliminator. I fancy Campbell beating Crolla easy enough just think Campbell will be too slick for most lightweights out there. Him v Turbo would be a good fight too. Very hard to make those fights and with Turbo being champion he doesnt have to that on Campbell any time soon.

As for Bellew the guys a cocky clown. That Latvian that boxed earlier in the night is his mandatory and looks good so will be a hard nights work if he takes on the mandatory fight. A fight with Haye I can only see Haye KOing Bellew. Haye was a top class champion at Cruiserweight when he boxed there. Haye wont fight at Cruiserweight again so a fight at heavy is the only option or a catch weight fight. Haye by KO.
Just think with Haye at the moment with Furys belts all up for grabs he might well be able to get a title shot within the next 2 fights. Whoever he fights in December then a fight against any of the champions. We all know Haye wants the AJ fight and that would make a lot of money for both men as they can sell a fight.

Frankie Gavin what a wasted talent he is. The guy is lazy if he had real work ethic he would go far. Has all the shots a decent chin he isnt a Welterweight never was he is just lazy. Yes the fight was good. Yeah he will get 1 more chance. I think he needs to go to a trainer who will work him hard drop down a weight and fight in that weight class if Sam Eggington is beating you then you got to be going to a different weight class and this is a huge wake up call. To see him in the ams to this he is the biggest let down for me.

As for boxing in general some big fights made James DeGale v Badou Jack , Frampton v Santa Cruz 2 and of course Ward v Kovelev going to be some really good fights in the coming months. Also Matchroom signing Katie Taylor to a pro deal didnt expect this to happen but fair fucks to Taylor and Brian Peters her manager for getting her a deal with Eddie Hearn. This might well see more Sky Sports dates over here in Ireland. I know there planing on doing Ryan Burnett up in Belfast i expect Taylor to be on that and then hopefully a Dublin show whenever she fights for a World title. The female face of boxing for years turns pro. I thought she would of retired myself.

Frankie Gavin is a joke. Should be making 140 comfortably not coming in at 151 or whatever it was the other night. Funnily enough I think it was the most entertaining Gavin fight I've ever seen though.

I really enjoy watching Eggington, he's nothing special and just loves a tear up. At 22 or whatever he is I cant see him having a long career the way he fights. Great for the paying fan though.

Thats why Frankie is the biggest let down for me he was the stand out am and his weight problems robbed him of a gold medal in a Olympics he is that good of a boxer. The weight problem he is just not disciplined enough to reach the top and be the champion. Was the 1 fighter i was looking forward to see fighting pro.

Just looking at the boxing schedules and some fights look good.
This weekend we have a decent bill from Belfast on Boxnation.
Jamie Conlan headling against David Koos and also the debut of Paddy Barnes at flyweight who could end up fighting Jamie in the future if things go well for him. Also Phil Sutcliffe Jnr the guy can bang just needs a good promotor behind him. Got robbed in Germany in his only defeat.

Then later in the night Manny Pacquiao v Jessie Vergas. Love to see Jessie winning but Manny should have too much. Just want Manny to retire as some of the younger guys he may well fight will have a bit too much for him. Keith Thurman , Shawn Porter , Kell Brook and Errol Spence Jnr can all bang and knock people out.

Then we have Ward v Kovalev will be a great fight the boxer v the fighter be brilliant to watch.

Then we got a double header of BillyJoe Saunders and Terry Flanagan defending there World titles then a fight i am looking forward to Lomachenko v Nicolas Walters , Walters can bang and will be a huge test for Lomachenko.

Can't see Molina going past six with AJ, to be fair he did cause Wilder a few problems early on but can't see any problems for Josh. Should be a decent card, pleased to see Quigg back in the ring, and although I havn't been over impressed with Dillian Whyte in his last couple of fights, i think he'll beat del boy on points.

I reckon Vargas will edge it on points tonight, can't see pac man doing owt special.
Frank warrens got a decent line up down in Brentwood on the 26th with a couple of interesting debuts for the less priveliged Benn and Eubank kids.

Manny winning his fight was no surprise. Money was ringside could they do a rematch i hope not. Rather see both retired. Paddy Barnes won by stoppage on his debut in Belfast last night. He wants to be fighting top fighters sooner or later he says. Good support up in Belfast last night. Irelands boxing capital by far if not the UKs all the shows up there get great support.

Regarding Quigg is he fighting still at Super Bamtamweight or moving up? I can see him getting a crack at a Super Bamtamweight title more so than a shot at a featherweight title. Only if and its a big if Selby fights him but Selby wants Frampton or Santa Cruz fight. Just cant see him competing well against the featherweights and chasing the Frampton fight might not happen for a long long time. Frampton wants big fights from now on and if he wins again against Santa Cruz he be fighting Selby or Gary Russell Jnr next with Al Haymon looking after all those fighters easy to make those fights.

British Heavyweight of the 60's Jack Bodell has died.

He held the British belt for a while and had decisions against Brian London, Billy Walker and Joe Bugner on his card as well as plenty of defeats.
There used to be a joke that he sold advertising space on the soles of his boots but that was a bit unkind.

R.I.P. tough guy.
