The British Monarchy

Dubious as in you don't agree with them I assume? I found two that said they brought in more than they cost. They weren't hard to find, sure some we be slanted to say they don't. But we are where we are , I don't think they are as popular as they were , but the King and Will and Kate are very popular. Always get lots of support, with only a few protests.

No - dubious, as in they don't stand up to more than a cursory reading. As I said, they include things that they are custodians of on behalf of the state (which should be the people), but still keep huge amounts of money that they generate. They also attribute masses of tourist income, which wouldn't go away if they had less money, and may well increase if their properties were more open.

I don't doubt they're popular, but as my comment said, we'd get the same benefits if we ensured they were just very rich, rather than unimaginably wealthy.

I like them, I think they do a great job and bring in more money to the country than they cost.
My stance is more neutral than that but just to take that point, France hasn’t had a working monarchy for over 200 years yet they still get more tourists than every other country in the world and many of those will be visiting the places of interest linked to their monarchy. That shows that it’s a myth that you need an active Royal Family to attract tourists. If they got binned off tomorrow, Buckingham Palace would still get millions of visitors every year. In fact, it might even attract more visitors than it does now as they’d be able to fully open it up to the public.

France gets more tourists for other reasons would be my take. It's scenery and weather?

Of course mate. There will be various reasons, just like here - look at the amount of Americans who visit the Lake District! But their royal palaces attract shit loads of visitors, as do ours.

Edit: @BrianW has got in a few hours and already made the same points that I have!
