This isn't quite correct. By convention the royal family are not even discussed in parliament let alone the existence of it debated.


You seem to be confusing democratic republics with totalitarian states that hold sham elections.

A cursory glance at any primary school history book explains the development of such totalitarian states although to be fair the Guardian would probably consider the information unsuitable for its readership.
