The British Monarchy

Okay I will watch the channel four documentary.

It’s the government present and past that collect taxes and keep the people poor and homeless. Since the time of Thatcher we have sold off all the advantages paid for
by the workers
Now we somehow have to pay for new infrastructure by taxing the current generation. I’m not blaming Royalty I blame the people we elect to govern us. We seem to forget the last 10 years of where parties in Downing St were the rule and the Queen sat alone with a mask on.
The. King opening food banks is his way of pointing out there is no need in this country for people to go hungry.

I will watch it later

You seem to have quite left wing political beliefs (sharing of wealth) but you also support the monarchy and believe their huge wealth is fair. That must be very unusual don't you think?

They're not foodbanks.
They're hubs to collect unused food from supermarkets/suppliers in order to send it to where it is useful - that does include foodbanks, but also charities, schools, etc.

That seems to be a good thing to me, and rather baffling as to why it hasn't been done before.

Absolutely a good thing.

My issue is he has to have the cameras on whilst he opens the two new hubs. It’s all about PR for these people and they are, quite literally, giving with one hand and taking away with the other.

I’ve never been a royalist and I don’t mind him as a person, but the last few weeks have made me really angry about their greed. There’s no other way to describe their behaviour.

Up the federal republic of the UK!!!!

I didn't mind Queen Elizabeth, held her council and did the job she was born into.

However, times change, and so has my opinion, when Elizabeth died, that should've been the end of them, Charles I can't stand, and everytime I hear some gimp saying here's Queen Camilla I burst a blood vessel, she's an old trout who got lucky by dropping her knickers for old big ears ( not the European cup )

I watched the documentary on the duchy of Cornwall and Lancaster and how they milk the public for every penny.
Wish they'd just fuck off into oblivion.

How does the King make 2 million from the public purse. If you’re talking about the crown estate that 2 million goes straight into the treasury.?
The King has his own private wealth accumulated over centuries but the Crown Estate is a business. ?
This private wealth you talk of, how was it accumulated?

I don’t think what they have has any bearing on my life, they have no power anymore the power lies with who we elect and allow to govern us. So the Royals won’t distract me by from what’s going on in Downing Street.
At no point in my history have I felt threatened by the Royals or their wealth. I’m ashamed of some of the choices our government made/make so I criticise anything I think could be done better eg: such as the WFP
Agitating for change is not a good thing when the few manage to overturn the many Johnson and Brexit, for eg:

Robbed the poor ? robbed the third world but so did many other countries France Holland and the Spanish.?

Oh and 14 years of Tory rule robbed the poor and Reeves just robbed the WFP while we are distracted with The King Harry and Meghan.
There was a time for Britain to become a republic it’s past, maybe in the future I don’t know? If we had a situation like in Ireland then the people would vote for it I would, oh and look at what Scotland just did to the SNP. and home rule.

I take it you do not run a business or rent property in the duchies. If you live there, make sure your will is watertight or your property may escheat to the duchy.

This isn't strictly true. They have the power to lobby and get exemptions from tax provisions of new legislation. Parliament by convention doesn't debate the royal family, any MP seeking to do so will be told to shut up and kicked out of the chamber.

That doesn't apply to ordinary members of the public, parliamentary privilege means that MPs can name members of the public and make statements about them that would otherwise be defamatory outside of the chamber.
