The British Monarchy

As I said yesterday none of that matters, as a lapsed catholic/athiest the king does not represent me of any non christians only the prodestant faith

CoE elistism should have gone when the empire crumbled.

Is the monarchy and parliament’s regulation of succession , not in fact sectarian and the 1700 Act of Settlement at the route of a world of trouble within the kingdom over 300 years later.
( Having read excerpts of it, I could arguably add, racist, perhaps)

Just asking for a friend.

Discuss.

I've seen a few of these sort of things about online and I think this is probably NOT some modern crack down on freedom of speech but in fact modern interpretation of 1000 yr old laws based on treason etc? Again, that's my interpretation. Therefore it is simply status quo in the UK.

Being a republican, I would say this is pretty damning evidence against a monarchist state.

I’d agree with that if we hadn’t only months ago passed new laws that clamp down on protest and freedom of speech.

Yeah I was saying in another thread that I didn't think this was associated with that (plus one guy wasn't actually arrested at all) but it does seem like it might be. Fuck knows. It's not a good look is it.

Which religion would you have liked to replace it with considering our national religion is CofE?

Religion is shit as is your argument.

I beg to differ.
Religion is shit but his argument isn’t.

When was the last Catholic leader of Turkey?

When was the last Protestant leader of Italy?

Did Islam crumble after the death of the Ottoman empire?

Did Christianity crumble after the death of the Roman empire?

It's a shit argument and you know it.

Were any of those leaders the figurehead of a religion?

In their own countries they probably are because they protect the religion they practice, the monarch of this country has a ceremonial role.

In this country however you can be of any denomination and get a seat in the big house where the real power is.

These weeping republicans need to focus because they aren't getting anything out of this any time soon, just watch the telly ann shush would be my advise.

So, no, they aren’t the figureheads of their religions.

”Just watch the telly and shush” hey? I think this is the point people have been making about the grief monkeys this week.

You do what you need to do, don’t worry about the others that don’t need to do what you need to do.

None, we shouldn't have a national religion, religion has no place near government or state, it should be a private matter for those that believe in the nonsense

It's a word, "Figurehead" it's a tradition, this is the most tolerant place for all religions and the republicans pick up on that?

As I said, if they want to weep for something that they aren't getting any day soon let them weep.

Who is the head of the Church of England?
Who is the head of the Catholic Church?

That's your opinion, write to your MP.

I don't care for any religion but that has nothing to do with getting rid of a monarchy.

They're even defending a nonce and are more angry at the person calling Andrew out.

What are you on about?

The point was the archaic belief that the monarch pledges loyalty to the prodestant faith in a what is pretty much a secular country.

Abolishing the monarchy wasn't the slant my post was about it was about the outdated proclamation document.

I can find much better reason if I wanted to argue the abolslisent, something my post wasn't about.

Name the last Protestant head of Italy or the last Christian Christian leader of say Indonesia?

Using a religion to try to remove the monarchy is a last resort for charlatans.
That’s a ridiculous argument. I don’t think anyone is suggesting Charles become King of the Muslims.
