The British Monarchy

What puzzles me is that Catholics get all worked up about a protestant having to be a protestant to be monarch when the Pope is definitely a Catholic and he was/is King of Kings in regards to Catholic countries.

Kings are chosen by God (Or so they say) and the Pope was the main guy dishing out the crowns and land.
Henry Viii has a lot to answer for !!!
As any casual student of history knows, it was less his love for an alternative faith and more to do with his lust.
It could be argued that Edward Vi was the first Protestant Monarch. After his early death the favoured religion of the monarch went to and fro until old James boy made a right royal fuck up.

I'm sick of idiots talking about slavery- we abolished it - yes we did participate in it - but didnt start it, and FACT there's 30 million slaves world-wide today, a lot built the Qatar stadiums some will go to this winter - we ABOLISHED slavery, our tiny little island has done FAR more good than bad, and I'm pissed off with apologising - we are the most liberal easy going country in the world - queue for fucking everything - pat yourself on the back kids, and get some wind in the sails - sick of the woke world. god save the king.
Morning, Worsley.

We ended up being surrounded by Catholic angst and wars happened actively prosecuted by Popes by them giving Kings blessings.

I however will not blame Catholics now for the deeds of their forefathers.

As ahead of state that represents evryone, the main reason I wouldn't want an elected head of state with any political backgound or agenda.
But to me, that doesnt make sense...as they really dont represent "everyone". If anything, an elected Head of State really DOES represent everyone (yes, i appreciate thats arguable in itself :-) )
So if they arent elected, are neutral and have no say or input, then whats the point?

How does wanting to abolish a model of rulership that commands no merit, that is anachronistic, corrupt, freeloading, nepotistic, unjust in its make-up, constitute wokism?

Woke is a lazy catch-all term people through around when they find anything that doesn't conform to their outlook as objectionable.

Now political correctness gone mad? That's something that grinds my gears. Just recently watched the new Pinocchio with my girlfriend and we both rolled our eyes upon seeing the new iteration of the Blue Fairy. If you've seen it you'll know where I'm coming from.

But wanting to abolish the monarchy is not "woke".

Speaking as an Englishman mate it's just the pomp and ceremony, I can't speak for all English people but that's about the long and the short of it.

It's the House Of Lords that gets my Goat if I am honest.

Henry 8 died a catholic. His argument was ostensibly about sovereignty. (See Brexit)

Just out of interest, would people have this view if we were actually allowed to know her opinions?

what if she was a Boris loving pro Brexit covid denier kind of lady?

the reason everyone loves her is because she stayed neutral on all matters
That's clearly a very strong part of her appeal - she hid her personality so well that she's was a blank slate for most people to project on to.

Given what we know about most of the family when they do open their mouths, it was probably the right idea.

I'm pretty indifferent to their continuation - in principal I'm a republican, but in a democracy I don't really see the point in upsetting most of the population for that principal. I'd say, reform so they can't continue to have input into our laws (which should have been a much bigger scandal than it was), but only abolish when a significant majority are in a favour.

Imo every single member of the family apart from Harry and his mam and his grandmother is or was scum.

That will be because you don't have double-standards

An interesting perspective I’d never acknowledged.

Interesting, but dont agree....to suggest we have avoided becoming a fascist state, due to having a Royal Family, rather than the vote of the British people is a bit of a reach imo

I can’t say I agree as such. I mean, Orwell died in 1950 so it’s outdated but it was a take I’d never even explored or considered in the ‘for or against’ argument.
