Its a mirror image this place.

Hate the Tories, hate any sort of perceived privilege, especially if its white and hate the Royal family unless she is American and a convenient head to hang your banner from, conveniently forgetting the privilege she benefits from on a daily basis.

Thankfully its nothing more than a noisy tiny element shouting and screaming online as usual.
 
the 'indifferent' part to the qu is a bit problematic really. I understand that is how some people feel, just 'meh', but if there ever is a referendum (and there probably wont be for a very long time!!) it'll be a binary choice, or you dont vote - either way it's only the yes/no that counts.

so at the moment, referendum style taking the indifferents to be non-voters, it's 56% Yes (keep) and 44% No (get rid), a reasonably strong win for keeping the Royal Zoo, by BlueMoon (but not overwhelming by any means).

but of course a lot of indifferents would vote, but it is hard to know which way they would go.

Why shouldn't i hate the tories or the privileged royals? One lot have done fuck all for me and the other lot have fucked me and millions of others over for 30 years.

Anyway, I’m not the arguing to abolish the monarchy or take the civil list off then but there is a contract in place that gave up the crown estate in return for it. So fair would be fair. I understand your where you're coming from, but if you read about how they came to "own" it in the first place, and the reasons why they gave it up, then it's clear it was never their private property. Briefly, "they" once owned most of the country by default, and they used the money they made from it to run things. That gradually changed over time, and they eventually gave it up because what was left of the Crown Estate didn't cover the costs of running things anymore, so they gave up those state responsibilities in exchange for the civil list.

We used to have an absolute monarchy, which came with huge responsibilities as the Royal Family were pretty much the government. As we've moved to a constitutional monarchy, almost all the responsibilities have been given up or removed. The transfer of the Crown Estate wasn't just in return for the civil list, it also let them off many other financial and governmental responsibilities.

If the Royal Family became a private family, then I suspect they wouldn't want to start running a variety of government departments with only the income from the Crown Estate to help them. I also suspect it wouldn't be what many people want :)

I mentioned the seabed because it feels a little more obvious, and has been in the news recently due to offshore wind farms. Does anyone really believe that the Royal Family legitimately, privately "owned" the seabed around the UK at any point of history? Of course not - it was simply the default that the state owned the seabeds, and it's only part of the Crown Estate because at some point state and crown were intertwined.

We all know that our taxes go towards paying for the royals and that includes people on their arse struggling to feed kids and pay bills giving money they desperately need to a family who are billionaires
Everyone knows that Andrew has escaped justice simply because of who he is and 12 million of tax payers money has been used to pay off the victim
We know that many of our parents have worked their entire lives to leave their kids money and property to help them live a more comfortable life, but before that money goes to their children a huge chunk is taken in inheritance tax, but a billionaire family who wouldn’t even notice don’t have to give a penny of inheritance tax
There’s just so many things associated with the royals that when the public hear about them they think “ that’s not fair “

I don’t know what the split is of royalists and Republicans in this country maybe 50/50 ( I don’t know ) but you’d think that the Royals would be aware of what those not in favour feel and it’s largely the “ tax payers money “ issue
Knowing this you think maybe just PR wise they would publicly offer to even just make some contribution to the cost of this funeral maybe

Personally I know that the one rule for them will never change so I just never think about it in my day to day life. Ok if someone tells me say something Andrew has done and got away with, I’ll think yeah that’s fucked up, but that’ll be it, I wont let that put me in a bad mood or affect my day
There’s so many injustices in the world you’d never be happy if you thought about them constantly. I know it’s going to be hot topic for people with the Queen just dying but seriously just Turn your Teles off.
I’ve never watched a royal wedding or funeral, Thatchers funeral etc.. cos I’ve got zero interest in them

It’ll never change so just crack on with what you can affect in your own life and live a happy one

First time I’ve seen that and it doesn’t look good but I’m finding it difficult to believe it was a deliberate fiddle.

The problem is that's not enough for some people. I have no interest in the royal family, but people who do have insisted that everything that I enjoy needs to be cancelled out of respect for them.

It costs each of us taxpayers about £2.77 a year to pay for the royal family. That is on average so the better paid will contribute more and the lower paid less. Anyroads I’m sure having their taxes reduced by 5pence a week will get them off their bare bones and put a bountiful fare on the table each night.

You don’t like the concept of privilege- it’s a fact of life but I get it, just call it out for what it is, don’t try and make out without the royal family we’d all be bathing in champagne.

I think that’s one of the reasons I don’t get to wound up about it, I can’t believe if the Royal family were axed tomorrow I’d be any better off financially

But that’s the thing, Not being funny but that seems a dramatic over the top comment that everything you enjoy needs to be cancelled
I’ll just be taking the dogs out with the mrs Monday and have a nice little picnic at the park
