The British Monarchy

I think that rather than as the media had for some reason hoped for that this would unite the country it has really shown up a few things such as how the country is deeply divided, how the media tries to shape public opinion rather than report the news and how if you do not fit in with the medias opinion you are vilified rather than being asked why you have that opinion.

I disagree. I think it has brought a lot of the country together. Look at the number of people going to London to pay respect. The numbers in Scotland. It’s not really been seen before.

You say divided? Pretty much every political party and institution has come together to show respect. The monarchy isn’t going anywhere

For one single day of the Queens funeral- I don’t mind this at all

I agree. What do people expect. It’s one of the biggest events in decades and it’s the head of state dying.

It amazes me people that don’t like it apparently can’t turn the tv off or watch something else. Hundreds of channels available yet someone’s forcing them to watch it?

"Just change the channel and watch sumat else!" lol

Wonder how many will copy this? Absolutely spending all day out of the house if I can.

Thank fuck we live an age of streaming. Just recently got back into X Files, so a full day of Mulder and Sculler on Monday methinks.

Little bit for everyone

Everyone I know, every customer in my coffee shop are either interested in following whats happening and being involved or not that bothered about it. I haven’t met anyone that’s against what we are seeing or complaining about it. Certainly not divisive in any way.

From Tuesday onwards the news will be full of how Kim Kardashian goes to the toilet 3 times a day to keep her figure as she explains the reason for a bloodshot eye she acquired after a particularly strenuous toilet visit.

Its just that some people and some outlets want them to be because divisive is their business model

Probably, and we will all get back to complaining about things that effect our real lives, and remember we have a shit government and the monarchy will go on the same as always.

Ohhh it's going nowhere mate, this coverage if nothing has proven that both the establishment and enough of the people will give it a lot more time going forward.

It’s the other way round mate , Saville did it on a regular basis back in the day in broad daylight.
I looked at the video as I thought people on here must be reading what they want into this.
First impression was, that’s not a natural thing to do at all, but there’s no way he’s fiddling in public.

I was going to post a tongue in cheek comment about him double bluffing the media. Doing exaggerated pawing like this openly, making it overt and people will say, there’s no way he’d do that and especially to his daughter.
It’s innocent.

But you are right. It was a blatant tactic of Saville’s. Could Andy possibly be that thick/smart, you choose, or is he just grieving his mother’s passing with his family?

Frankly, I think the latter….
His daughter is way too old for him.

I guess when you are sipping your latte surrounded by flag wavers, and Union Jack hat wearers all saying what a lovely lady Queenie was, then you’re probably going to keep any grumbles to yourself :)

I don’t think the institution of monarchy and its future is going to be defined by the reaction to the funeral of a woman who has been a constant for most peoples lives.

The death of of the Queen will usher in change. A lot of commonwealth countries will take this opportunity to revisit whether they want the King to be their head of state, and I’m not convinced Charles has the ability or the nous to keep the institution relevant. By that, I mean he is vain, entitled and tin eared.

Now, if it was Anne inheriting the throne, I would be a lot more confident.
