The Chameleons / Chameleons Vox

I liked them, never saw them live though. Re-bought Strange Times recently and think it still holds up and much better than most of the other shite at the time. They were kind of after New Order and before Stone Roses and never really found their niche, if that ever mattered. It's just music, listen to what you want. 7/5 from me.

Think the music press largely ignored them on the back of NO and The Smiths success.
When you think their peers were more U2 and The Bunnymen rather anything that was coming out of Manchester at the time they should have been much bigger than they were

The Chameleons were popular with Peel, they did several sessions and had two entries in the Festive Fifty. He didn't bother with them after the second album.
I don't understand why they weren't much bigger. They certainly had the songs.
I read that they appeared on a TV show called Youth Opportunities hosted by Mike Sweeney, does anyone remember this ? Would be great to see this if it still exists.
Other than that they were also ignored by TV aswell as the music press. Though I believe the Camden Palace gig was shown on overnight TV once.

I'm going to see these in December. First live band I've seen since.....er....since...... i can't remember. I was probably pissed up. I'll be sober for this one, anyway.
