The changing face of Christmas

Just the genuine ‘Goodwill’, all fake bollocks now.
Probably belongs in the ‘Nostalgia’ thread this but said to my bird I’d spent over £200 and when I looked at how many presents there actually were it shocked me, £200 when I was a kid would have half filled your living room.

Existence of inflation proven to have eliminated genuine goodwill from Christmas - study finds

Would love to relive this day, seeing our greatest return

That day, I came on as substitute and I could not believe the atmosphere. The whole ground, including the Newcastle fans, stood and applauded and chanted my name. I was a passenger, but everyone tells me it was great seeing me there, and for me, it was and will always be my number one game, and my number one memory of playing football ...”

Second hand xmas presents and I was made up, was so grateful….
My most amazing Christmas as a kid, with both the memory of it and how I felt at that particular moment was getting a second hand bike, a 24” wheel Marlboro.

I’d seen it, but completely ignored it believing it would be for my older brother, I’d opened all my presents and my Mam said “do you like your bike” ? I literally was like ‘Holy Fuck’ in my head, couldn’t believe it, must have cost them a fortune, even my miserable twat of a step dad smiled at my obvious delight.

When I went out on it, all my mates had got ‘Grifters’ and were taking the piss (in a nice ish way I suppose) but I didn’t care, and took GREAT delight, in burning those fuckers off in every single race haha ;-).

With it being Christmas Eve, sitting here watching BBC1 talking about Christmas of old, one thing I remember vividly from my childhood that I would love to see started again was the magnificent window displays many shops had, dancing reindeer, singing snowmen, Santa on model trains, "painted" window displays etc
What do you miss from Christmas past?
seems no different than the last 30 odd years bar it never snows and the football fixtures are messed around.

when christmas became about cosumerism as an event not a festival of any deep meaning unless religious it became generic.

once as a kid you grow up and then your kids grow up christmas just becomes another event that comes and goes with an excuse to drink and see people you haven't for a while.
