The Co-op Live Arena

Paul was incredible, as always, almost 3 hours on stage and i went both nights as you know from previous posts - but first night extra special as i took my 8 year old son! We were 5th row middle (4th row the next night), and he stood on his seat all show as it only made him my height of 6 foot so he got away with it :) I heard getting in was bedlam, we missed it as we were on the soundcheck package both shows, where you get to watch Paul do a 50 min set of different songs in the soundcheck as a bonus gig. We'd just left back into the bar area on sunday to find that it was into injury time and the bastards had just scored, couldn't believe it... But Paul - AMAZING!

I've loved Paul since i was 9, in 1984, been to 27 of his concerts, and went to both Manc gigs and both London's (yes i saw Ringo come on and rock with pepper and helter skelter!!!!!!! 3rd row centre 1st gig, 7th row centre when Ringo came on)

I'm knackered, and never been more skint and in debt - still owe my sister for the Paul tour tickets, but it was such a happy 4 days of gigs (though some Paul fans would trample over their own grandmas to get nearer to him, we came across some real bastards in London from south america.... but i digress) and having my 50th birthday sandwiched in the middle made it a top week.

Apart from the football results.....

That and now i'm home my other half is still a total shit to me :( Though i promised my son i'd go full on Christmas, so get that smile on woman!!! (I mean me btw, i know many don't realise i'm a woman, and my other half is a very grumpy man!)
Brilliant that!

He really was immense wasn't he! I've only seen him twice but both gigs are the best I've been to. He genuinely is the finest musician alive in my book.

We also took our 10 year old to the gig on Saturday night as we wanted him to be able to say he's seen a legend live. We were worried he would be bored but he absolutely loved it and was blown away by Live And Let Die and Hey Jude. The sound and spectacle was incredible. I'm coming the the conclusion that Hey Judes "na na na..." bit should be the National Anthem.

He wanted the Got Back tour t shirt which we got for him and he is absolutely made up to see him. He told all his teachers at school and it's fired him up on his piano lessons.h What a name to have as your first gig!

Hope your son enjoyed it as much!

That's brilliant. I really didn't know he was playing in Manchester until I saw some tickets going on Twickets website. I couldn't afford what they were asking even at cost price they said, but would have loved to have seen him other circumstances allowing. You sound so happy that you got to see him again and well done for taking your son. I hope he remembers the experience.

Only been to one gig at the Co-op and trying to get home to South Manchester was awful. Couldn't hail an Uber, had to walk down the canal side all the way to town. Drinks were horrendously overpriced. Sound is excellent, and stage set up is good but I just can't like the venue. I'm a bit angry at the pricing too. £80-90 is now "normal" for a band. Yeah as a one off treat it's fine, but what I've found is that most gig goers try and see bands they've never seen before and where say they'd pay £80 for 2 tickets just for something to do, they won't pay £160. It's ruined casual gig attending for me.

As I'm attending the COOP live for the first time to see Morrissey I had a look at what turns out to be their super slick website. No mention of cash, box office nor even price lists of food and drink here. Whilst fully expecting what the likely answer would be, I decided to enter the word cash into the AI bot.

Co-op Live operates as a cashless venue. While most payments must be made using contactless methods—card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay—cash is accepted exclusively for merchandise purchases.

So they can shelve security reasons or whatever the contrived reason for doing away with cash is, if you want to buy some overpriced tat. And as every photo I've seen of the venue on an event night featured large queues outside, I wondered about the box office

The box office, referred to as the Fan Services Ticket Office, is located outside on Level 1 opposite the canal. Please visit this location for any ticket or app-related queries before entering the venue.

Referred to as the Fan Services Ticket Office FFS!!! The FSTO sounds quite similar to the FTSE and FSO (Financial Services Organisation), probably not entirely inadvertent.

And other overblown shite from the website:

Burgers with soul. A burger concept inspired by the music heritage of iconic venues, offering classic burgers. Each bite harmonises premium ingredients with the rhythm of legendary sounds.

Rock and roll, eh.

"But I'll tell you, honestly now, I will love it if Mozzer demanded they stopped selling soul burgers (no price listed) for the night, love it,"

Going tonight but wondering how to get home or into town after.
Are there taxis knocking about near car park?
Been a couple of times, queues for the Met were long but constantly moving towards the platform, so not that bad, on the tram within 25mins of joining the queue, which just about makes it quicker than schlepping to town.

Your ticket mentions a level but there is no mention of levels when you actually get in
So I wasted ten minutes working that out which would be a nightmare if you have difficulty walking
The first number of your block is what your level is

Wouldn’t it be a good idea to catch a tram going to Ashton (as I assume the queue is shorter?) and jump off at the first stop and then return on the next tram heading into town
I did that 2 times at the Move Festival at Lanza CC.
Got the near empty tram to Stretford and crossed over for the next tram heading into town

I will be entering the building just as the main act come on.

I'll be trying something similar. Only thing is in the Morrissey thread it says he came on early for one of the dates as there was an issue with the support. And there seems to be huge queues in every picture I've seen of this venue, so it may be quite difficult to gauge.

There's plenty of fantastic bands playing right across Manchester and further out for a fraction of that. Fuck the corporate greed. The best gigs I've been to have been 1000 strong crowd sweat boxes. Spotify has been life changing for me in discovering new acts. The days of spending ridiculous money to see an act are over for me.

It may well be a better option but I'm not sure if the extra capacity that they use for gigs/matches comes from any stops further back up the line, I mean they are usually empty when they pull in at the Etihad stop, so are probably kept at the sidings until required.
They do split the queues though as you approach, people directing you to inbound or outbound queues.

That was a rather longwinded way of saying I don't know if it would be a good idea or not.

Couldn't resist tonight based on the sound system
