Yeah, we agree on that one. I have lots of bootlegs of the Darkness tour in 1978 and IMHO that was the best. Unfortunately big rock gigs nowadays are a bit too slick for my liking.I’m not gonna take issue with you about his shows 81-88 but I think we can surely agree his 80s was his best live era overall, and that the last 15 years he’s far from that level as a live experience. That was really where I was coming from in relation to any disappointment about not getting tickets to see him next year.
FWIW, I’ve heard recordings from virtually all his tours and although I never saw it myself, I’d rank his 1978 shows as the very best.
