You are probably right TBH - I am always amazed when you see stuff on the news when they interview say old twin sisters about Covid on their 70th birthday and they say " we will manage - we have done it before - we lived through a world war^ with no understanding that the rest of us can count.....

I died we lost you speak German and still we have been arse fucked by the EU. Result eh?

I think it's a clear move to use /hijack the flag. But symbolism is about the people who don't do it and polarising debate as much as a statement of intent by those who do. Every tory in front of the union flag is more/as much about casting those not draped in the flag as the 'other'. It's like wearing a poppy or taking a knee - to not 'join in' implies you are against. The union flag is for flying over public buildings, for sporting occasions and for national celebrations. Politicians using it as a prop hasn’t ever been a very British thing to do and is clearly being used by the current government for jingoistic purposes. If you want to try and shut down discussion by using provocative terms like people being triggered that’s up to you but it doesn’t mean it’s wrong to mention it. I’m proud of my country’s flag but I wouldn’t dream of having it flying outside my house or fastened to the wall of my living room to demonstrate my Britishness.
The government wouldn’t have to do anything if the radical left didn’t start attacking every little thing about the country and calling everyone racist.
The public are sick of them and the government will just do what the public want, as the Tories always do to maintain power.
