For as long as I remember, Tories have talked about 'growing the pie' in preference to redistribution.
It looks attractive at first sight, doesn't it? The snags: 1. It's not that simple, or everyone would be doing it. And it's even more complex in a developed economy. 2. Big Brother Joe, who always insists on the biggest slice of the pie, will demand an even bigger slice of the bigger pie as an 'incentive'. Because Big Brother Joe does not give a shit about his siblings living on crumbs.
This is typical simplistic Tory bollocks, drawing analogies that they think 'ordinary people' i.e. mugs can understand. See also 'maxing out the nation's credit card' and 'only spending what we earn.'
Oh, and as an aside, if I was planning to grow the economy my first step would not be Brexit which it is acknowledged has knocked 4% off GDP for no tangible advantage whatever.
OTOH, if I was a politician in the here-and-now, and wanted quick growth, my first step would be to apply to join the Single Market and align with the EU as much as possible to boost trade. But then I am not a blinkered idealogue who thinks it's still 1955 and that we can somehow persuade the world to share our delusions about 'free markets' and all the rest of the right-wing imaginary bullshit.
