I don’t want to give the fucker any credit for what were disastrous policy positions which have done untold damage to the country…

But I think it is important that even those of us on the left recognise that there is a difference worth calling out between politicians like Cameron and the post-truth disaster mob which has taken over the party since his departure.

I fucking hate the likes of Thatcher, Cameron and to a lesser extent Major from a purely political perspective for what they’ve wrought on the country with their ideologies. But I would take them every day over the deranged, lying and frankly scarily dystopian politicians which have inhabited the post-Brexit Tories.

I want statespeople I can disagree with but identify with reality and the structures of our democracy. Calling Dodgy Dave a “sensible Tory” is maybe taking it a bit far… but he certainly is not Boris fucking Johnson, and for that we should take some consolation that things have moved in this direction.

It’s all relative though.
The thinking would be that they needed to take the ‘personality’ out of politics (‘personality’ of course need not be a benefit to those who apparently possess it - Johnson and braverman being examples) and replace them with someone who couldn’t possibly make the same howlers as their predecessor.
They need to replace personality with dull, grey ‘safe pair of hands‘ and who better than a man devoid of any personality who looks the part in a nice saville row suit pressing the flesh with world leaders and enjoying expensive banquets with crowned heads.
They will be thinking that his presence on the world stage, where he is very well connected will add some stability and gravitas to the whole rotten edifice of this government.
 
I can’t see the swivel eyed loon faction being happy with this, but I guess we won’t be hearing anymore far right dog whistles for a while, they will be plotting mark my words

And the red wall tories are finding out just how important they are (they aren’t) what is more important is their core vote in the south which has been melting away
