The Conservative Party

Rightly so as well.

No it isn't rightly so. All of those policies are in breach of the UN convention of refugees or maritime law.

It’s called shirking our responsibility. We have left the EU and relinquished any right to rely on The Dublin convention.

We take less refugees than our neighbours and still moan about it and blame France for our own failings.

This no legal way for refugees to travel to the UK, obtaining a visa under false premises or using false documents to get on a flight, ferry or train is an immigration offence.

Ermmmm……….rightly so as in the vast majority do not agree with gov policy.

I’m of that majority.

Read the responses under the heading I copied above.

What policies do the British public think should be put in place to deal with the Channel crisis?

That is quite chilling to find out that a majority of the people surveyed are cunts.

It would be even more chilling if I didn't believe that the majority of them are ignorant and ill informed and lack a basic grasp of the details and would unlikely to be aware of why we can't and shouldn't use such policies.

I only took the number that didn’t agree and didn’t read the article.

This is so easy to fix. Set up reception centres in France in conjunction with the French and process these people. Those who qualify we bring in and those who don’t, the French can deal with.

Only that pragmatic and compassionate approach leaves you then morally able to tackle the smuggling gangs and those who refuse to use agreed channels of entry.

We have left the EU and relinquished any right to rely on The Dublin convention.

This is the one where Brexiteers show their sheer ignorance - when we were EU members and could have used it we never did - then when we left they all quote it without realising they voted to give it up - whilst knowing what they were voting for obvs

We crave the centre left.

We reject the far left as offered to us by Corbyn and co and the sort of left many on here aspire to im afraid.

I will use a swear word here but Blair!

That’s the sort of politician that would defeat the Tories.

Trouble is far too many want to call him or his supporters a Tory and then they wonder why their politics never wins the day.

Starmer has a chance but he has to seriously up his game and if he fails to oust this lot of charlatans and criminals the God help us all!
Agree with all this - the vast majority are neither far-right nor far-left - and the vast majority reject both extremes

That is not really understood - or certainly not reflected - on here I think where most threads are dominated by the vocal 'harder left'

It was probably largely an echo chamber on here before the 2019 election - leaving so many surprised that the reality is that what 'seems' the dominant views on here only really reflect minority views

I agree that a Blair would piss the next election - because, although we cannot be arsed challenging the obsessiveness of the harder-left on here - most of us are actually centrist in our views - just like the vast majority across the UK

I’d say I’m centrist at heart and believe that there should be something for everybody. I lean either way dependant on the policies at the time but will always make a choice based on where I feel politicians want to take us.

This government have taken us so far right I’m unsure if I, and people like me, are now the odd people out and I cannot see what others are seeing, and wanting. Corbyn, for me, was the exact opposite of the Johnson cabinet which probably led us to where we are now, the current societal values don’t align to what he and the Unions wanted.

We’ll see soon enough with the upcoming local elections what some in society really think and it should be a signpost to what this country really wants.
Good post

I think that this government has only had the opportunity to take us so far to the right because of the utter rejection of the how far left Corbyn was viewed to be. They have done it by 'stealth and deceit' - little of the intent was set out in their manifesto

Out of the blue the rejection of Corbyn and support for Brexit handed them a massive majority and left them able to purge their party of more moderate views

Starmer needs to step up and offer a clearly centrist manifesto and shake off the shackles of the remaining hard-left in his party
