I think there‘s an outside chance Labour will say in their manifesto they’ll look at it without giving a firm pledge. They need to play a long game with electoral reform in both theirs and the country’s long-term best interests.

They're talking of relaxing immigration rules to allow for exactly what you mention above, proving brexit from their point of view was never about immigration in reality, it was about being able to rip up the rule book and get rid of worker's right, you know, what a lot of people were saying about brexit from the very fucking start. Immigration was the red herring to get people on their side.

I just can’t see the party that had Priti Patel in the home office a month ago is going to start trumpeting the benefits of immigration.

It is indeed but it is how our lot are proposing to reduce it that is spooking the markets. They are proposing that once the price cap comes in, that will reduce CPI by upto 5%, but CPI doesn't include housing costs like mortgages and rents that will almost certainly rise as a result of the BoE having to raise rates to keep credibility. The only way out that I can see is if they, for now withdraw the tax and NI changes pending the November package which by then should have been fully costed. These changes don't come in until April anyway.
