The Conservative Party

Doesn't look like they're having any problem holding this vote..

I bet Labour still can't pull ahead in the polls either.

The no confidence vote (which I strongly suspect May will win) might be the prelude to a general election if there’s no renegotiated deal. Although I would say a no confidence vote probably harms Tory hopes of winning a bigger majority.

I thought it was Labour who were playing politics?

Shambolic - backed themselves into a corner at the 59th minute of the 11th hour - even now I bet she wins thus wasting even more precious time and landing themselves with a hapless hopeless leader for the next 12 months - Toryism is now in intensive care and the next week will determine whether it survives.

You will look back and thank her for all this as she is doing remain work here and doing it very well.

All roads are leading to us remaining in the EU.

You're right, though ousting a sitting Prime Minister is tumultuous in itself, this could be the beginning of a historic Tory Party split.

Old Vince will be doing a Wormtongue to the wet Tories today.

Tonight’s vote is not about her WA or brexit, it’s about the next GE and who the Tories want leading them against Corbyn.

She is toast imo.

Oooh we're live boys and girls.

Pretty much just getting a slight variant on the strong and stable nonsense. Threatening a Corbyn government, even a withdrawal of A50 by a new leader.

So, who will contend Tory Leadership if it gets to that stage?

Probably a few hardly anyone knows but I think some that will stand include Bojo, Hunt, Rudd and maybe Mogg and Javid.

159 actually but not sure 50% + 1 is enough.
Ah yeah, it's phrased as a vote of confidence isn't it? Tbf if anything over 100 vote against her she's a dead duck and should quit, but if she decides not to and gets the 159 the Tories are stuck with a dead duck for the next 12 months unless they call a GE. Someone should make a sitcom out of this really.

Yeah - they could call it Yes Minister or Yes Prime Minister or even the Thick of It.

Funny thing is I watched, enjoyed and laughed at all those shows but when watching them you do think "politics can't possibly be like that" - then you watch the news.................

One question -

"are you a Nutter?"

Incredibly, I'm going to disagree with you. This vote is 100% about her brexit plan, and a number of flouncy tory leavers wanting their own dystopian vision of brexit in place. What I find completely incredible however is that under normal circumstances, any possible Tory leader would be trounced in a general election against Labour considering the shit show that is currently taking place. Unfortunately however, Corbyn is in charge, so that is not the case. This is the lowest point of British politics in my lifetime.

Depends how principled or self serving the dissident Tories are. So probably not.

You may well be right, but we'll know the numbers, she'll know and we'll know the stark reality that her Brexit deal is dead by a simple head count, no matter how long she hides the deal from Parliament, it isn't going to change and it isn't going to suddenly win anyone over, she's finished either way.

She will be the very definition of in office but not in power.

Although so will the ‘winner’ should she be unsuccessful. Moderate Tories talking about resigning the whip, if one of the hardline brexiteers were to win.
