I'm not convinced by that argument. The further they go towards bat-shit right-wing extremism, the more they will alienate voters, especially the younger voters they desperately need to attract.

This country is not like the USA in that we do not have a massive cohort of so-called Christian 'evangelists', who can be led by the nose to vote for a man so obviously 'not Christian' as Trump.
