The Conservative Party

Sadly that is state we are in after the last 13 years and Brexit. Brexit really has screwed our growth.
I wouldn't say the referendum vote did, but the Tories and their 13 years of austerity messed up growth instead. That lie-pedalled referendum didn't do much good though.

Switzerland, Iceland and Norway seem to do okay and they are not in the EU, while San Marino have never been in a trading bloc union, have never had deals with any of them and are the only country without a national debt.

Bit of a surprise that a draft (and apparently very much a draft) of the Cabinet Office Sue Grey report has ended up in the hands of the Telegraph.

Not that it makes a difference as the Cabinet Office have no say in the Acoba decision, as far as I know. Still convenient timing to offset the video and tomorrow's Johnson events.

Switzerland, Iceland and Norway all have much closer and more sensible relations with the EU. The Swiss and Norway are also incredibly rich, albeit for different reasons. If you're incredibly rich as a country, your life is much easier.

As for San Marino - that's really like comparing Hanley Castle Parish Council to Greater London. A different animal completely. Once again, it's an incredibly wealthy country.

You cannot possibly convert the UK into one of these states overnight. Or at all. In the case of Switzerland, they have not been involved in a war since medieval times, and they have never, ever appointed themselves to the role of Constable of the World. And that's just for starters.

You are right about austerity. It was a misconceived policy driven by a doctrinaire desire to shrink the state. It failed on its own terms as it did not sort out the economy. It did, however, make the rich much richer at the expense of the bottom 70% of the population. This in turn led to widespread discontent, and in their blind fury, 52% of those who could be arsed to vote voted for Brexit in the mistaken belief it would improve matters.

This was rather like terminating your RAC membership because your car had run out of petrol. Or burning down your factory to get a pay rise.

The awful Guido Fawkes seems to have declared war on Bernard Jenkin - literally blue on blue.

They are just burning each other alive now - damage control is not a thing any more they are losing and it seems they do not care by how many. Unbelievable - I know there has been talk of new right wing factions setting up by Tories who think they are not fascist enough I can see the more they do veer to the right the more moderate Tories at all level may set un "New Conservatives" to save their Party.
