The Conservative Party

You blamed the EU for wholesale energy being tied to TTF. It’s literally what you said. The decision to tie energy costs to the marginal rate (which is almost always TTF) is nothing to do with the EU, and whilst it has worked well for many years, the shock of TTF going up by hundreds of percent in a very short period meant that it became a really bad way of calculating the wholesale price as far as the consumer was concerned, but brilliant for the non-gas energy producers, who suddenly were making huge windfall profits. It was within the government’s power to make a temporary change to the pricing formula but they chose not to. Anyway it’s all academic and we aren’t going to agree so I’ll leave it there.

I don’t know why you keep repeating the same argument. It doesn’t get any less wrong. I’ve explained this in at least three posts now and really can’t be bothered doing so for a forth time.

Enjoy your evening.

Thanks for explaining three times why a very specific thing couldn’t be done like it was the only thing being suggested, when nothing specific was actually spelt out.

Will nobody agree with me that bad though this government is, when they try to do things, they get blocked left, right and centre.

Suella Braverman has said this week that some charities are politically motivated activists masquerading as humanitarians. To back this up it is reported today that a former Home Office Chief (Emma Haddad) accused of resisting key Conservative policies while in charge of asylum, is joining Amnesty International UK - a charity that is on record as saying the government's policies are "inhumane, racist and divisive".

It is not just charities too: also in the news today: the Fire Brigades Union are threatening the Home Office with legal action over the safety of migrants who will soon be moving back onto the Bibby Stockholm barge. I actually wonder what the members of this Union really think about this, like other Unions it will be highly politicised (and on the left) in a way its members may not be. Plus, the barge used to used for Oil workers in Scandinavia I think, if it was safe then, why not now? Could it be the Oil workers had nothing to gain setting fire to their accommodation, whereas these new occupants may have (a return to Hotel living).

Did you type this before or after you howled at the moon?

errr no......Its common enough for ex Civil servants and ex Politicians to move jobs on leaving into an are of which they have knowledge - thats what ACOBA exists for. Look it up and inform yourself before posting as a bit of research saves you looking silly.

As for the FBU - part of its reason to exist is to protect the welfare of its members and fire prevention is the best way to do that. No firefighters get injured or killed in a fire that never happened so whether its fitting a smoke alarm for your nanna or fire safety checking an office block Fire and Rescue Services around the country spend a lot of time doing that as it save lives.

Yes the Bibby Stockholm housed oil workers ............... less than half of them boarded there than there will be migrants. The occupants will have had fire drills - some will have been trained as fire marshalls to help in evacuation in the event of a fire like most places of work/lodging and there were no locked and barred doors or windows preventing escape.

Other than making none you make no valid points - still crack on and enjoy the Koolade

If you constantly come up with impracticable, inhumane and illegal 'solutions' to problems you will tend to get blocked, and rightly so. This demonstrates that some of the checks and balances are still working. Rather to my surprise, to be honest.

What some people seem to want is arbitrary government. This is a concept that went out with Charles I and is the very opposite of what a civilised, democratic, modern state should be.

If they didn’t try to do illegal, immoral or completely pointless things that waste huge amounts of public money they would probably find it easier to get things done. Unfortunately they don’t actually want to do anything meaningful, they just want to create a situation where they can blame everyone else for their failings and they rely on mugs like you to lap it up.

So in 2025, when Keir Starmer tries to enact change, but he is blocked at every turn, will you be Ok with that?

We may as well not bother with elections and democracy if, as you say, "checks and balances are still working" - nothing will ever change!

Just to clarify, regardless of majority etc, you want the victor of the next FPTP election to have total freedom to enact any law they wish ? Is that right?

Yes.

(perhaps if it turns out to be a bad thing, we look at a different system)

But the fact is, the current Government were elected with a strong majority - 80 seats. Yes they have messed up, multiple times, but part of the problem is this: when they have tried to enact the policies on which they were elected (control of laws/border/money) they have been blocked at every turn.

That is true. That makes me question the democratic system.
