The Conservative Party

His austerity programme wasn’t more right wing than Thatcher’s - not even close in fact.

In Cameron’s first parliamentary term they pushed through just over half as much austerity as Thatcher did in her first term. In fact between 2010 and 2015 Cameron and Osborne reduced the deficit by less than was signalled by Brown’s last Budget in 2010.
It’s a very interesting strategic shift that Sunak has made. One that may have surprised the ERG.

It will be interesting to see their response to it, when they have agreed their strategy.

This reshuffle is a joke. Talk about barrel scraping. Using a footy analogy … if the general election was relegation from the Prem it’s like Luton making multiple changes to their regular starting eleven now and hoping they avoid relegation.

If you remove Christmas and the prorogation of Parliament before a May 24 election (probably), Ministers in new posts have maybe six or so months to make a difference to impress voters. I doubt they even have time to learn the names of their new team members.

The current limited meaningful parliamentary business will be further derailed.

Its a complete shitshow and those who suffer most are us, the electorate.

Have to disagree.
Cameron/Osborne's plan was to reduce the current account deficit to zero by 2015. He failed because he decided in 2012 ( after he was booed at the Olympics) to start handing out tax cuts but he carried on with the austerity program.
Anyway the question of whether he was more or less right wing than Thatcher is irrelevant ( my fault for raising it) , but he is not a centrist.

When you think back to the conference its a total shift of direction. But is he really going to win back the socially conservative tories?

And are the loonies going to give him a free ride?

I suspect there is not much if any net upside in this. The red wall tories will see it as more nails in the coffin.

Answers on a postcard.

Who knows? Genuinely? Lord Boris might be PM by Xmas.

The real question to ask is who have turned more corners, this mob or the rags?

Welfare cuts planned by ministers in a bid to save £4 billion. - Tax cuts for the rich have to come from somewhere.

That is me fucked , i get assessed all the fucking time despite my bad health , currently having my pips assessment done again, being so stressful makes me literally vomit

The one thing I will give him credit for is that there is much less Braverman chat today. Its the first time in a long time he's got ahead of the narrative and looked like he's making decisions as opposed to being forced into every move.

If he announced a referendum on rejoining the EU then I'd almost consider voting tory.
