The Conservative Party

The good ship Sunak massively holed below the waterline and taking the Party down with him

He admits to leaving Britain a sadder country in a much worse state than when they started, but still thinks they got brexit right!
Massive disconnect, just like the rest of them.

Good grief.

John of Gaunt's speech from Richard II (this sceptr'd isle, this blessed plot, this England) ends with

this dear dear land,
Dear for her reputation through the world,
Is now leased out....

and even a bit about the self-harm of Brexit:

That England, that was wont to conquer others,
Hath made a shameful conquest of itself.
That is the second half of Gaunt's speech. Flagshaggers and pseudo-patriots love the first part, but the second part is where we are really at.

The odd thing is that Richard II was a much more effective ruler than Sunak. He had barrels of gold coins stacked up in Holt Castle at the time of his deposition and had established peace with France after years of defeats at the end of his grandfather's time. (But we only talk about victories and pretend the French were always beaten.)
