The Conservative Party

Bloomberg’s take on today’s economic figures is that GDP per head shows recession started two years ago with seven quarters without per person growth - which is the longest stretch on record.

No wonder Tory MPs are quitting in droves.

I often wonder, who are the 20% of people in polling that say they are still voting Conservative? Have you ever met one of these people in the wild? My mum has voted for them in every election since 1980 and even she’s not voting for them this time. I work in the middle of London City, former Tory boy central. You won’t find any fan of them even there these days. I’ve asked around friends who are builders, roofers, etc. can’t find a single one.

Are they just the weirdos who turn up at Tory Conference or Liz Truss’ weird press gatherings? Because surely that’s not enough to make up 20% of the electorate. It really does baffle me.

My mum and dad always voted consevatives, my dad has passed but I know for a fact he hated Johnson and wouldn't be voting for this set Of Tories. My mum has already said she won't be voting for them. My aunt and uncle are but then they are racists and fraudsters.

Over 65s in affluent areas make up a large chunk of it. Without them they’d be even more screwed than they are.

The I’m alright Jack generation I suspect.
Hopefully future generations ensure they are out of power for a long time.

To me it doesn't make sense at times.
They let a million people in last year and yet we still went in recession.
Begs the question what are these people doing and why is it not growing as it should be?
Plus I know brickies and carpenters who haven't worked for months yet there is a housing crisis!

I meet them most weeks. But then we are knocking on doors that were "Tory households" that we'd not have bothered with before, and even in posh areas it's a fairly even split between "still Tory", "never again", and "give Labour a chance". "Still Tory" is my standard eyebrow-raised response if they are still voting Tory.
