The Conservative Party

It’s a portable rug for sweeping things under.
Gets a lot of use.

A right twat!

Must be a really safe seat that one!

Lichfield? Just a bit!

Anyone who votes for that top hat needs help and barring from voting in elections for life.

WTF is this thing?

Don't, just don't. I have the 'privilege' of being represented by this weapon. He regularly brings shame on the city these days or to be more precise we've brought it on ourselves by allowing him to be the MP. In '97 Lichfield was about the only winnable seat that Labour didn't take. Since then they've changed the constituency boundaries to be exclusively Lichfield and surrounding area and he's been safe ever since. It's typical will vote for a bonobo wearing a blue rosette territory (to be fair the dumbest bonobo in the troop would bring less dishonour to the city even if it spent it's days hanging off the roof of the guildhall and flinging it's faeces at the passersby).

Whenever people tell me Andy Street (west mids mayor) is a decent guy, which lots of people do, I can't reconcile that with his choice of Mickey as his life partner.

Anyway, the ward I live in has never in my time returned anything other than a block of Tory councillors but at the last local election it returned more Lab/Lib than Cons and technically the Conservatives lost overall control of the council. The GE will be interesting. I don't think he will stand, he's had some health issues and I suspect even somewhere like Lichfield with a 23k majority isn't viewed as a truly safe seat next time round.

Lichfield seems to be very similar to my seat - Witham (Priti Patel's seat). Very similar majorities, both similar size (Witham has a population of about 25,000 versus Lichfield at 35,000). Both a waypoint between farm country and the city - though different cities.

These areas have very resilient Tory votes. There are others with bigger majorities (not many), but there are few that are as stubbornly set against change. Witham also returned a number of Labour councillors this time round; though Tories are still well in control.

I get the strong impression that even if the Tories get absolutely decimated, they can still rely on places like Lichfield and Witham to return a Tory. There could be a nuclear winter, and they'd still be returning a Tory.
