The Conservative Party

What!!!……you mean some poor sods live in a more miserable place than us.
God help them.
Yep, we can't even be the best at being miserable.

As usual we were plucky underdog runners-up, this time to the mighty Uzbekistan

According to the BBC:
"The UK's biggest supermarket chain said pre-tax profits hit £2.3bn, up from £882m, while sales rose by 4.4% to £68.2bn in the year to 24 February."

Price gouging .....an increase in sales of 4,4 % shouldn't result in a doubling plus of profits. They haven't done anything much in the way of cost control.

If profits more than doubled but sales only rose by 4.4% that implies the profits are truly excessive and they must be screwing their suppliers. Unless the typical basket mix is significantly different to the previous year and contains more high profit items.

Or as an alternative explanation (i) Tesco took an exceptional billion pound impairment charge in 2022/23, which dropped out of this year’s accounts (ii) the BBC reported the wrong profit figure, either because they’re useless or wanted to create the misleading impression of a surge in profits, and (iii) people on here couldn’t wait to pontificate over an incongruous rise in profits on the back of a meagre rise in turnover.
