The Conservative Party

After the EHCR report on antisemitism, Labour in turmoil over who should be suspended or expelled.

After the EHCR report on the illegality of the "hostile environment" measures, will the Tories be in turmoil over who should be disciplined?

Behave. Theresa May instituted the ‘hostile environment’ policy precisely because it was racist. The woman was obsessed with immigration as is the current Tory Govt and Home Secretary. It’s a mental disease with these people.

Had to Google who Keynes was but I think he’s spot on, unfortunately we now have an elite who won’t let go unless something drastic happens in politics. Unfortunately Corbyn was too far left and these twats are too far right. We need someone who’s not had a career in politics but has lived through all this crap to come forward and fight for everyone not just the the elite or poor.
Wasn't that Trump's pitch?

Actually, if you want working class origins, how does son of a toolmaker and a nurse sound? Arise, Sir Keir.

Well as a civil servant I have no problem with no pay rise in 2021 , as my colleagues on the lowest pay will still get a pay rise .We have better terms and conditions, pensions, annual leave & sick pay. The government needs to spend the available money on helping people get back into work . I await all those that disagree, if you want to see how much civil servants earn look on civil service jobs there are lots of jobs available to apply for .

I wonder how much the chancellors share portfolio went up after that statement?

No doubt someone will provide the facts in a couple of days.

In the public sector we aren’t asking for huge pay rises, I’d be happy with inflation matching rise, since 2008 I said it would take 15 years to get over the private sector (banks) greed and fuck up, i got no pay rise for over ten years, I’m actually in real terms £5-6k worse off.
Yes my job is more secure but also I’ve not been sat on my arse since March on 80% of my wage (also some still earning while claiming as well), I don’t do cash in hand jobs not paying tax on earnings, do I have a good pension? Relatively but I pay 15% a month of my wage for that privilege it’s not just given to me.
All that happy clapping I said would turn into jealousy later because it’s what Brits do, as a nation we are quite frankly a bunch of selfish bastards, you only have to see how as a society we’ve handled this pandemic compared to other countries.
I will quite happily take a pay freeze to help out, however when all this austerity is over would we see the public sector get a huge pay rise in acknowledgment, would we fuck. Just like in austerity when we bailed the banks out but they were still paying huge bonuses to the people who got us into this mess!
If you want to boost the economy reduce tax rates lower down, more money in people’s pockets they will go out and spend, multi millionaires don’t spending wise contribute to the economy in that way, you can only buy so many yachts or cars. Yes tax them more but go after the tax dodging companies, Google, Amazon etc, that’s were you’ll make a difference.
Its going to take another 15 years or more to get over this mess, if your in the public sector, you’ll get nothing off these bastards and Labour not much better, I see retirement age been bumped to 70 in this period as another way to save money as well, hoping you pop your clogs before you can claim anything.
Good luck to everyone in both sectors but don’t vilify the public sector, you know the ones you all stood outside clapping and kept you safe this year.
I'm the same.
I'll take a pay freeze as even though I've worked through all lockdowns I know I'm lucky to have been able to, and still have a job.
However, this lot will use it as an excuse to really screw us for years. Why? Because the public service infrastructure carried on and it will only be when it's NOT there that it would be missed. The country would grind to a halt, literally. So the general electorate, despite the effin clapping, takes us for granted all the time.
I'll take the pay freeze but you can bet we will be undermined again for at least a decade, just like last time.
I'm one of the many who will have to pick up the pieces of people's lives for years whilst some private companies have actually profited from this shitshow. That enrages me.

I thought Sunak was different, he appeared confident, knowledgeable and a throw back to One Nation Tory fiscal competence and inclusivity; I even had a grudging admiration for him as a Chancellor and as a person.

He isn't, he is just the same old divide and rule Tory that the rest of them are.

The public v private sector argument is so disingenuous.

Plus the cutting of the foreign aid budget maybe politically popular, but it abdicates our responsibilities as a first world nation and former Imperial power.

Same old, same old Tories. They don't give a fuck about anybody apart from their donors, friends and family. The corrupt cunts.

Leopards don't change their spots mate.

This may help Hancock...... having to state the bleeding obvious to the Tories (again)

Proportion of salary covered by sick pay

Germany - 100%

Belgium - 93%

Sweden - 64%

France - 56%

Spain - 42%

United Kingdom - 29%

And just in case... he can refer to this. Worse sick pay in the developed world.

I think the public sector argument is (inevitably) a bit more nuanced than ‘four legs good, two legs bad’ . There are many people within the public sector whose conduct in the last nine months has ranged from exemplary to heroic. Going over and above their normal duties, and putting themselves in harm‘s way. NHS workers, police officers and teachers spring to mind.

But there are others (like many in the private sector tbf) who have been tossing it off since March in the knowledge that their jobs a relatively safe and their salaries will be paid come what may.

I do think, however, that £5 billion, the cost of an inflationary rise for the public sector, is fuck all in the scheme of things.

Overall, we have much more to thank the public sector for (and those that work in it) than criticise it.

I am all for a public sector pay rise for NHS staff and carers.

You do know many people in the private sector have worked through the pandemic as well, especially supermarket staff on low wages who have been packing Aldi bags for the middle class teachers. As for workers in other roles, I wouldn't say working consistent 10 hour days is "tossing it off off".

I also don't know anybody who has been "tossing it off" on furlough knowing jobs are safe. I know people who have been sick over the anxiety of not knowing if they have a job to go back to. I also know a few people who have been made redundant with mortgages to pay etc.

A minority of businesses have taken the piss with the furlough scheme especially Sainsbury's who took government handouts whilst paying out a huge divident.

I wouldn't class all teachers as heroic, my nieces teacher "tossed it off" for 3 months on full pay not providing any home work etc or accepted kids of key workers in school. My elderly parents had to look after them whilst their parents ( both a police office and nurse / proper key workers) went to work their shifts.

Apparently he was struggling doing the media rounds this morning.
He's only really effective when trotting out a prepared script.
He shines out from the rest of the cabinet because it's such a low bar.
He's also done about four U turns during the current pandemic not because of rapidly changing circumstances but because he made errors of judgement in the first place.
And then of course we had Rishi's Dishes ( spread the virus about remix).
