The Conservative Party

Having idiots running the country is principally a function of the electoral system have have. Nothing will really change until it does.

Just over 12 months ago... droves of people voted for Boris because he told them he’d get Brexit done! He had an oven ready deal... ready to pop in the microwave. The majority of the media were on side and didn’t bother to scrutinise Boris election promises. A year on Brexit isn’t going well but no one in the media is holding Johnson to account... he told the public he had a deal so why isn’t he on the Andrew Marr show or Robert Person’s show facing scrutiny. Democracy is being sidelined by politicians telling lies and being allowed to get away with it.

It will be ground one of the appeal.

She is a complete fucking idiot.

This morning on the BBC she was asked about that tweet, Patel said she didn't write it but posted it, and that focus should be on the withdrawal of the tweet after being asked to being the right thing to do. She said it was written after some guilty pleas/verdicts, and just refused to acknowledge the point that there were other trials still in progress.

I thought that showed quite a lot of detachment from reality and deliberate ignoring of the issue.

I also quite liked that provision of 1 cereal bar/driver was standard practice and therefore was acceptable.

Lock her up ! Lock her up !

She's pushing to open an Asylum centre early (before New Years Day) knowing that theres no drainage , running water or toilet facilities.

She wants to put 300 asylum seekers in there with no health care facilities either.......right in the middle of winter.

Human Rights violations by the UK Government.

Meanwhile in other news it's 1000 lorries delayed according to Kent cc not the 170 claimed by BoJo and trade affected by closure of Dover AND Eurotunnel is close to 50% not 20% claimed.
.
No sweat guys, according to Vacant on TV this morning the number of lorries parked up at Dover 'fluctuated upwards!
PS It's 1500 now.

A long but interesting article which goes to the very heart of what afflicts this country. Emotionally immature men are the scourge of the world.

It's maddening that they will just come out with barefaced lies and know they'll get away with it. When people want to defend him and claim he's doing his best in a difficult situation, how do they explain away the lies he comes out with every single day.

So did they know about this new mutation in September as has been reported? But Boris and Hancock are saying they only knew about it last weekend?

I don't like the modern day hysteria about trying to get people sacked for every minor problem but how do either of them survive if the former is true? If they've sat on that for three months to the point that the UK is where it is now as a result of not acting, they have to go.

This for me is the huge issue and bigger than the political parties involved, Johnson is a goner, he won't contest the next election and I would be suprised if he is still PM in 12 months.

With that been said the bigger issue is a complete lack fidelity to facts by politicians and how far we have deviated from conventional norms of even 5 years ago. A small example, Priti Patel this morning has said "the government has been consistiently ahead of the curve". Plainly untrue and an amazing thing to state. This is a woman who was sacked for lying has breached the ministerial code and remains in position. There are countless other examples from Hancock, Cummings, Gove and Johnson, the corruption of the service contracts for PPE and Track and Trace etc.

We are living in an age where politics has assumed the same tribalism as football clubs and one side will always defend the other regardless of who said what and attack the other side as well. Objectivity and qaulity public office is the victim.

The reality is that BoJo has a deal ready to go - the negotiation is within the tory party as its a shit deal with nothing like the kind of concessions that they hoped for. As it stands we dont even get much in terms of fish - and fish is the base level barometer. If we dont get back the fish wtf have we got back?

Part of the game here is BoJo waiting for everyone to pile on and call him a dick for not getting a deal (and pile on the ERG in general to push them to support the deal available) and then he will sign up last minute and claim it the greatest achievment by any living PM. Its classic Johnson - its all a game being played out for maximum effect.

I like your last paragraph about tribalism. It is the same as the Brexit thread. More like a football match.

This is very true.

The Tories should, obviously, get hammered for this in the next election but they won’t, it’ll be close enough to keep it interesting.

The left v right divide compared to 15 years ago is quite shocking to see.

It’ll be hard for Starmer but I am confident he has what it takes.

I think the only way Johnson doesn't contest the next election is if he doesn't want to. No way will the backbenchers try to oust him after delivering their biggest majority since Thatcher.

And Johnson saying there are less than 200 lorries stuck on route to Dover when the highway agency say it's 600. Just lie after lie after lie.

What we are witnessing is a political elite - drawn from Eton and similar who think they were born with the god given right to rule the country and take whatever they believe is there's. Brexit was dreamt up by those making a killing from hedge funds who want to turn the UK into the Cayman Islands. They feel they can lie and bluster because they are doing us all a great favour whilst profiting. For the last 9 months they have largely focussed on lining their own pockets rather than solely focusing on the pandemic. The NAO has exposed their crimes but no one is listening. Johnson is morally bankrupt and his government has not an ounce of moral fibre... it would be interesting to know precisely what you'd have to do to get fired from the cabinet... clearly breaking the law, breaching the Ministerial code or blatantly lying are not enough. In a few weeks when the Brexit project is finally exposed, Banks, Rees Mogg etc... will hit the jackpot.

The Tories will ditch Johnson and do what they always do.. reinvent the past... the present government denies any continuity with Cameron or May - that was nothing to do with them - despite most of them sitting around the cabinet table. My fear is we get Gove who will make Trump look like an honest broker.

Breached the ministerial code twice .... and as far as many are concerned committed treason.

Starmer is the most credible labour leader of the last 10 years, he has proven track record as a outstanding barrister, conservative enough that right wing and centrist voters would be tempted by him. If he was in the Tory cabinet he would be odds on for next prime minister.

The big issue I see with Starmer is a paucity of talent in the labour party and the lack of discipline/focus of labour when it comes to winning elections. Labour's infighting and ability to self destruct is astonishing and at times it comes across as been a party more worried about winning the internal arguments rather than beating the conservatives and winning an election.

As for the talent pool in labour, you can make the argument the Tory party is as bad or worse but unfortunately it's not enough for labour to be slightly better they have to be excellent, harsh but that is the reality when your 80 seats down.

I hope Starmer does it, I think he would make a excellent PM but the task before him is huge.

Johnson in my mind is finished. He is too associated with this shitshow, him and Hancock will be the political casualties of this pandemic. Rightly or wrongly he will shoulder the blame for Christmas cancelled etc

The tory party for all it's flaws has never been shy about wielding the knife, that ruthlessness has made them so electorally successful. Johnson will be gone and there will be a rebrand before the next election.
