The Conservative Party

So what would you do to stop uninvited visitors to our fair isle?

They obviously don't like any of the countries they have passed through, were they not made to feel welcome in any of them?

We are paying the French millions to stop this happening and they are just taking the money and laughing at us.

As a Nation we are a soft touch and everybody knows it.

Same with the 10k Syrian refugee's we took - we weren't hardline like the Germans were who took in 1m plus eh?

We are very hostile to asylum seekers and refugees and have nowhere the numbers other countries have or accept.

I would accept more and facilitate safer routes into the country to eliminate the need for hazardous channel crossings.

For those who are pushed into making these channel crossings then god speed and hope they make it across safely.

The way to stop these people from coming over here is to improve conditions at home so they don't need to come. But we are busy cutting overseas aid do that'll help won't it?

Incidentally, it worked in Poland. When Poland first joined the EU we saw a large increase in the number of Poles coming over here. They got a huge injection of cash from the EU and as conditions in Poland improved we saw a reverse and people started to go back.

This isn't a question of how soft we are, what we're doing is upholding international law and laws around our sovereign and international waters. Let's forget these people are refugees, imagine if a french fisherman strayed into our waters and landed on our shores. We wouldn't grab the fisherman, throw him back in his boat and send him back.

What we'd do is we'd detain him, charge him with whatever applies (illegally entering UK?) and then send him back. This is almost what's happening except the people crossing when detained are lodging an asylum case which is their legal right. It is not illegal for a potential refugee to enter the UK through abnormal means, IE, not at a border point.

If we care about lives, it therefore makes far more sense to have a border point in France where people can lodge asylum cases in safety. The only reason this hasn't happened is because its politically impossible for the Tories to arrange this with France. So the boats will continue and it's because it's politically impossible to help them in France and its otherwise illegal to physically stop them.

Nevermind asylum seeker, i've got work colleagues who are EU citizens who are all saying that the questioning at the border when they come in and out has become extremely aggressive, with one friend currently getting UK citizenship purely because they can't be arsed with it anymore. These are ridiculously qualified people who we want working here but are being put off by the gigantic prickathon this country has turned into.

I’m shocked. Meanwhile in other news, why European lorry drivers are not planning to return to the UK.

"The way they treat people? Never again."

FT again...

One well-placed Whitehall official on ending the £20 a week uplift:

“The internal modelling of ending the UC uplift is catastrophic. Homelessness and poverty are likely to rise, and food banks usage will soar. It could be the real disaster of the autumn”

Memo to the writer of this piece. That the Tories no longer understand or care about business was self-evident with its Brexit policy and when Johnson said ‘fuck business’. The writer of this piece had no issue with this policy or statement.

The bigger problem, which will cost us all, is that the tax raid signals that this government doesn’t understand wealth creation, enterprise or business’

you think we should welcome hundreds of migrants to make the dangerous journey across the channel ?

how about we get planes to bring them over ?

Yes. Have them apply for asylum on French soil, process and approve them (or more likely, reject them and then have the court overturn the rejection) and then fly them to the UK.

Or take the ferry. I’m good with either.

Ok, i was genuinely curious

and would there be no limit on numbers ever ?

Our record on bills that are rammed through without scrutiny has not been great so far :)

Govt has confirmed the Health and Social care levy Bill will be rammed through the House of Commons entirely in just one day next Tuesday.‘
