The Conservative Party

There are millions of people who take no interest in politics because they see the subject as "boring". However they have a vote and when they see a party led by an interesting character they vote accordingly. The Monster Raving Loony Party doesn't get their votes as the party name is a giveaway. But the Tories, led by a monster raving loony, benefits from having a collection of clowns in the cabinet.
Is that really true?

Who was the last “character” to be voted PM?

"Boris won't apologise", "Boris refuses to condemn". Screw that shit. We want him gone. Fkin bumbling fool in charge.
Then another twat comes along. All cut from the same cloth. They don’t give a shit about anything other than looking after the status quo.

Tony Blair had charisma. As did Cameron, in his own way.

It is important to people, and it's why Brown failed in 2010 despite being infinitely more qualified for the job. And it's also why Theresa May was a disaster for the Tories. She only scraped through that election as she was against Corbyn.

True, but they weren’t voted in because they were a ”bit of a character”.

If we are going down that route, then Danny Dyer is likely to be the next PM.

PMQs will be a riot today I reckon. 30 minutes of Johnson screaming “LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION AND THE EUROPEAN MEDICAL AGENCY”.
No it won't. It will be all denial-nothing happened- and Capt Hindsight not supporting the NHS on the 1st anniversary of the Tory vaccination roll out.

Yes. He will act the stuttering buffoon and skirt around the direct questions flying at him. I’ll stick it on for five to see the opening roasting.

Starmer seems to have his plan on how to approach it now - ask a short question; note that Johnson didn't answer it, and move on to specific points.

Johnson's problem is that he doesn't have anything new to say.

You get the government you deserve I'm afraid.

I hope everyone who voted for these corrupt, incompetent charlatans feels guilty this morning. But they won't. Because they got Brexit done. That's all they wanted.

How can you be outraged when this government showed you exactly who they were, and you voted them in with a huge majority anyway?

Vote for a clown, expect a circus.

In 50 years people are going to look at 2010 as a turning point in UK political history.

2 events within 3 months set us on the path we've been on for a decade now. Clegg dropping the tuition fees pledge, and the unions putting the wrong Milliband in charge of Labour.

Clegg killed the third party, which was a massive check on the conservatives, that lead to the rise of UKIP and Brexit.

Ed was an unelectable bufoon compared to his much more presidential, smarter, brother. He turned everyone against New Labour and towards Corbyn which split the party. So ended the serious opposition.

And this government has been running away wildly since then, getting more and more bold and realising they can get away with anything they want.

I agree. I've said for ages that the butterfly effect that set a lot of this current shit show in motion was when Brown was caught with his microphone on calling that old woman a bigot.

Does seem strange that this video has surfaced now, a year after the event? And, owing to the latest whisperings, it's going to coincide with tougher restrictions being imposed. Does appear this is an orchestrated A-Bomb drop to oust that charlatan. I'll be overjoyed if he goes, but this sorry episode just shows how corrupt the system is, from top to bottom. They all piss in the same pot.

What angers me most about modern politics is the lack of viable alternatives. Labour haven't inspired confidence for years, and the self-serving Tories seem immune despite lurching from political crisis to political crisis. It's a shame the Lib Dems have never gained any traction with the electorate; at least to freshen up the steaming pile that is British government.

Its probably an anti-lockdown type in the party trying to torpedo the government imposing new restrictions based on omicron.

The irony of that is they haven't even got Brexit done.... the supporters are so invested in the lies they believe them when they say it is despite at the same time moaning about the EU attitude in on-going Brexit negotiations

Trump lost the election by about 20,000 votes, after 4 years of blatant corruption, lies, abhorrent behaviour and literal crimes with half his staff having been arrested and indicted.

You don't need a hardcore cult following, 70,000,000 Americans vote for anyone with an (R) next to their name, no matter who that person is.

And as this country slides more and more towards American politics, there are tens of millions of people who will vote Conservative no matter who, just because they're not Labour.

And they will do that no matter how many times this government treats them like shit. This latest scandal won't do anything, the next poll will show conservatives up even more than 2 weeks ago.
Lets see how the next poll goes but I don't see Johnson turning this one around and the tories aren't a party who will let someone go into an election that might not get a majority. If you look below the line of Johnson 80 seat majority then you will find that there were many seats he won on a wafer thin margins. That is how elections are won here and as you point out in the US,

The reason why Trump lost is because enough of those moderates (that win and lose elections) decided they couldn't stomach another 4 years of Trump. His plucky underdog/ I will say the quiet bits out loudly persona began to great on people and the same is happening here. The sad buffoon who likes elongate his words with posh accent act is begining to grate on some.
