The Conservative Party

Imagine the electorate in England will give the Conservatives a caning in the local elections, three weeks tomorrow, yet that same electorate will likely return them in the next General Election.

The Conservatives can’t find an alternative leader, a situation that won’t change, and the electorate in England will likely balk at the political alternative. Fascinating situation.
I'm not sure on your last point because if one thing we know is that Johnson just like his mentor Trump will only continue with the corruption and lies. The cost of living crisis like covid was for Trump will be Johnson's cryptonite. Granted they will always will have a base that will support them whether they shot someone in broad daylight. But this cost of living crisis would bring anyone down unless its being handled well. Johnson like Trump doesn't have the competence to deal with it.

This is the same party that managed the Great Recession by hammering the poorest in society for the best part of a decade, and its management of this ’Conservative Living Crisis’ is to do pretty much the same, with the promise of free beer tomorrow in 2024. Nonetheless, the English electorate has seen fit to re-elect it three times since 2010, and with a current working majority of 77 I don’t see much changing.

To many years in the EU has left our politicians thinking that they only have to turn up and speak, they con enjoy all the perks and benefits of the job. Most are now rich men out of touch with the people.
I cannot take anything they say seriously, privately thinking he’s off to have a knees up and party with the rest of the common’s

The police did not want to prosecute any MPs even when they must have known what was going on in Downing St. the list is endless and. during tha Pandemic the Police were using drones to spy on couples up on the moors
The transport secretary brazenly supporting Boris this morning

Membership of the European Union has nothing to do with corruption in Parliament; British members were doing a fine job of feathering their nests long before that body was convened. :-)

You're right, though, that the electees do appear to be further and further removed from their electors. After the Second World War, we had a generation of MPs who had largely lived with and fought alongside people from all ranks of society, and that shared experience meant there was greater understanding, as well as distinct senses of duty and honour. Those have now passed, and we now learn that even our own supposedly great shared experience of the last two years, the pandemic, has been endured very singularly by those in the highest offices.

Being in the E U enabled politicians to think of our country as European when we were an island with two tiers of government two layers to pay for. The country voted to leave but did not vote for the current corruption no one could have foreseen when they voted how far removed parliament would be from the people

Most people are to busy working and caring for families to remember Dominic Cummin, Matt Hancock etc so it’s up to the remaining MPs to educate the public between now and the next election and get the message out there not let the public forget the lies.

Who can forget the Cabinet smirking when asked to own up joking there way through the job it’s all been fun for all of them.
I like to think her majesty made the police act and prosecute them all :) or Sue Gray

One of the best example of the mental gymnastics involved in justifying a Brexit vote I've ever seen, and I've seen a few.

Man alive.

There is a link between the current political corruption within government and Brexit, but it's pretty much the opposite of your bizarre cognitive dissonance. This is not a Tory Government, it's a Vote Leave government. Every politician involved in Vote Leave was a Liar or an idiot, and in many cases both, and that is why they all keep getting caught doing dishonest, stupid things.

You are right, for the moment democracy in this country is lost. I just hope that it can be restored, hopefully better than ever. Time will tell.

You probably won't remember but I warned before the 2019 election that Johnson and his Brexit chums were far more dangerous to this country than any alternative. The evidence was always there for those that could be bothered to look.

I sincerely hope that one day the truth of Brexit and this government will be told but I'm not holding my breath.
It doesn't need to be told. It's nearly all on public record. Try "the week in Tory"!
