It was probably largely an echo chamber on here before the 2019 election - leaving so many surprised that the reality is that what 'seems' the dominant views on here only really reflect minority views

I agree that a Blair would piss the next election - because, although we cannot be arsed challenging the obsessiveness of the harder-left on here - most of us are actually centrist in our views - just like the vast majority across the UK

I think that this government has only had the opportunity to take us so far to the right because of the utter rejection of the how far left Corbyn was viewed to be. They have done it by 'stealth and deceit' - little of the intent was set out in their manifesto

Out of the blue the rejection of Corbyn and support for Brexit handed them a massive majority and left them able to purge their party of more moderate views

Starmer needs to step up and offer a clearly centrist manifesto and shake off the shackles of the remaining hard-left in his party

There’s probably not more than half a dozen far left posters on here that regularly contribute to the political threads. The fact that you think there’s loads suggests to me that you’re further to the right than you think you are. As your former persona you were strongly advocating a vote for Johnson in 2019 so you could get your precious Brexit delivered and you didn’t care what damage that would do. Now we’ve had nearly 3 years of the fat fraud in charge it’s a bit hypocritical of you to be anti-Johnson without acknowledging your stance and your vote in 2019.

Sir Roger Gale just gave an insight into the 1922 Committee meeting prior to the PM entering the House. He said that he had to walk out after about 3 minutes as the attitude was not what he would expect. Basically, sounded like it was a bit of a jolly, back slapping atmosphere prior to the pantomime we saw in the Commons.
 
I have said on here previously that I used to be Tory voter right up to and including the Bliar presidency. Not sure when my attitude changed. I think just before I retired 15 years ago and went to Tanzania as a volunteer. My wife tells me that she still is and that Johnson isn't the 'real' Tory Party - until yesterday. She listened to the Dalek and then to Johnson and the penny finally dropped when Tory after Tory stood up and defended them both and she said 'this is not the Tory party I used to know'. I think her vote will go elsewhere next time.

Shame really as it will not make any difference at all around here. Blue rosette on a pig around here and the pig won. This why we PR.

It is the same Conservative Party and, like all parties in power, it's behaving no differently. The leader's survival is intertwined with many of his members' survival at the polls, which is why so many were prepared to back him publicly yesterday. He is also backed by a wedge of members who have pledged undying loyalty for delivering their raison détre (irony deliberate), and they're more terrified of relinquishing that than anything. Only one spoke out in the House yesterday, but more voices will be heard in the coming weeks, and by the time the energy bills start appearing in October, that will be a cacophony.

Still only conceivable rather than likely, but if the Conservatives contrive to throw away a seventy-strong majority over the course of a parliament, it will be some feat.
