The Conservative Party

I've just done a quick calculation and I think that with the new minimum wage, you would have to work 41 hours a week to not be eligible.

which nobody does. Anyone working in retail will be on a 12/16 hour pw contract. They may pick up the odd extra shift due to colleague illness or holidays. They do that because it limits their liability to holiday pay and sick pay - its a simple distortion of what they call the gig economy

Cost of sales fell from 92.6% of revenue to 92.15%.

Hardly seems like rampant profiteering to me.

Effectively you’re giving Tesco less than 8p in the pound to buy all of your produce, handle all of the logistics and regulations, employ thousands of people, manage hundreds of properties and allow you to shop in a location that’s convenient to yourself.

And the bastards have got the cheek to try and make a profit eh?

80% of their staff are claiming Universal Credit ...

If you are single on a 16hr contract you can claim around £60pw UC on the proposed wage rise from Tesco when they get around to it. Is there any reason why the taxpayer should be doing that for workers at a business that posts that level of profits?
My Mrs works at Sainsburys - they provide free food for staff ( mostly the stuff that would be reduced to help poorer customers ) because they know the alternative would be a higher wage claim.

I was unaware of this, probably why they announced this morning that staff would get a 1.5% bonus due to the profit announcement. Every little helps, apparently.

Oh and another reason retail jobs tend to be 16hrs max its so the employer can make sure that the taxpayer is on the hook for maximum benefits payouts - how is that "making work pay" ffs

so doing 16hrs pw on £12.02 per hour will result in a bonus of £150.00. Thats 80% of your weekly wage .......

But staff aren’t on that wage yet. The bonus arguably covers the later implementation of the rise so it’s not really a bonus.

Oh so its " look in my eyes look in my eyes and not at your payslip" kind of jiggery pokery? They are playing hard and fast with the rules to save £2.50 per employee on their bonus? Epic cuntery.
