I looked and didn't see a thread devoted to craft beers. Recently I've liked the Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Extra.

What are your favorites?

I'm not sure I've tried Shipyard but I'll be on the lookout. In the last two years we have had a massive upswing in craft beer bars. One in particular keeps over 80 on draft, we have another with 30 and one that has 15 but two are always on cask. The bar with 15 is an English-style pub that sends their bartenders to school to better understand beers, they really know their shit.

Here is their site: <a class="postlink" href="http://generalsutterinn.com/bullsheadph/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://generalsutterinn.com/bullsheadph/</a>

I'm glad to see that there's finally something of a move away from massively over-hopped craft beers in the States, even if it is slow and long overdue. Having lived in Prague for two years now I really appreciate a well-made lager (even though I was a real ale drinker in Britain), and that has been an area neglected by a lot of craft brewers until relatively recently. There will always be a place for IPAs and APAs (not so sure about double IPAs personally), but most of the time you want something more balanced and drinkable but still well crafted and tasty.

It's time lager stopped being a dirty word in both the US and the UK. A good lager is a fine thing indeed. It's a shame the word has been sullied by generations of factory-brewed bilge.

I agree, while I like a good IPA I can do without the over-hopped garbage. I've had some decent stouts recently too, when an oyster stout is done well it's a great thing.

Personally, I love the very hoppy ales.

Always have .... must be because I was brought up on Boddies (as it was) And still will go for a light, hoppy beer (Silver King, White Lion, Lakeland Gold, Old Golden Hen, and Manchester Bitter etc) in pubs.

And it is fantastic that almost every town in the States now has a 'Craft beer' bar or pub ..... looking forward to my next trip over there next month .... So good that don't have to just drink Bud Sprite etc ...

I also love a good stout (or porter for that matter), although even they can be massively overworked. It's getting into dark beer season though. We have some cracking dark lagers over here.
Had nice bottle of Robbies Old Tom last night , lovely drink and very strong. I remember having a half on draft ( wouldn't serve pints) in the Sportsman Rest in Bredbury in the 80's - hated it !! Shows how your palate changes.
Anyone know any pubs that still do Old Tom on draft ??
