I agree with the original post too.

I think the reason lots of Blues are clamouring for the niggest names is that they want to hold their head up high amongst United fans. This to me is why there is so much excitement about possibly signing Tevez.

He's good but I won't be that bothered if he comes. Barry is the right player in the right position, as would be Lescott and RSC.

People should look at what players will do for our team, not how they will be perceived by others.

Totally agree with the OP and with your point about some posters just wanting to hold their heads up high amongst United fans in the "Star Signing Wars".

If Barry was called Barrinho, or Barinici, many of the same people would be creaming themselves, instead of saying "he's shit", or (the more erudite among them) "we can do better than him"; no, we can't. He's 1) quality 2) knows the Prem 3) is available at our current non-CL level.

I agree with the OP. It's one thing thinking, for example, that RSC may not be a great signing, and saying why. That's fair enough. Mistaken, in my view, but fair enough.

What's not sensible, or fair, or grounded in reality is to think that we are 'above' signing players like RSC or Barry, and being disappointed unless we sign acknowledged world superstars. Such players rarely move at the height of their careers, even to other clubs in the Champions League with established pedigree, never mind to a club that's highest PL finish is 8th!! Just because we can afford them, does NOT mean that they will come - or, necessarily, that we should try to buy them.

A lot of the criticism of our signings, mooted and actual, is based in the misguided notion that we can and should be in the market for the top, top players. In some cases, maybe we should, but that will be the exception, not the rule.

Ask yourself how many established world stars at the height of their game Chelsea have signed in the Abramovich years. Most of their signings have been of players either on the way up, or the way down. That says it all.

In this point in time we are not above signing players like RSC. However there is no reason we should not be able to shoot for the stars and at the same time and have realistic expectations. Tevez in my opinion is a very possible signing! We are on our way up, he will get playing time, and he will recieve good pay! Everyone has a right to express their own opinion wether it seems delusional or realistic. We are not going to agree with everyones opinion anyhow!

Furthermore with the rise in expectations we should expect the players to rise to the occasion as well. However we should not expect drastic changes! If we are a top 15 team then expecting to be a top 4 team is unrealistic! However a realistic target would be 6 because we are a top 10 team. It will take 2-3 more years at this rate for us to be breaking into the top 4 very regularly and make it a top 5 League.

I agree with how rediculous the statements and posts of "ITK's" stating how we will sign "Et'o" and "Villa" as it is just alot of people claiming a bunch of bullshit. Not because I don't think we couldn't sign them but because I do not believe the source itself. Some of these are unrealistic and some are more realistic than we think.

I really don't understand Tevez, its like people haven't watched us all year what we need up front is a presence who can hold up/win the ball who gets a fair amount of goals when the games get scrappy. Yet in Tevez its a player who can't stay up front bar chaining him down, can't win a header, can't hold the ball up for more than 3 seconds, can't score regularly, blatently loves United. Personally I don't care about the United thing but people go on about Hughes being a rag yet want us to sign a player who has openly said he'd love to play for them. I just don't get some of our fans.

I actually agree with you regaring Tevez's ability. i don't really care what he thinks about united, just what he could do for us.

For some of our fans it's the fact that united fans want him. i'm afraid. I note there is very little discussion on this forum about where we would play him, what formation he would fit and where he would play with Robinho and SWP in a 4-3-3.

I've said before, if Robinho goes he is a more useful signing I think.

Supporting a club with lots of money doesn't mean that you have to blindly be overjoyed with every signing we make.

You didn't actually read my post did you?

I wasn't saying we should all be wanking ourselves dry over Barry but I do think we should be loving him a bit more than that fucking rag twat you all love and other random celebrity super star mega Sky sports approved players.

Still, we can always blame Hughes I suppose.

so your slagging people off for not being overjoyed about barry but your not happy about signing tevez. lol
i actually like barry and i want tevez

, I get the irony involved in calling rooney and ronaldo a rag twat but loving tevez. yes their are many fickle fuckers on here. also.

micah is up his own arse coz the sun said so and how fucking dare he be all bling blink and D J on a saturday

sturridge is a greedy fucker cos the star said so and how dare he not smile after scoring a goal even though we verbally abused him from the minute he came on

elano is a twat, how dare he ask for a new contract when he has two years left

why isnt hughes getting a new deal he only has three years left, hes undervalued.

you only hate hughes coz he "played for them" but tevez is a rag twat

robbies shit he doesn't track back

^^things i read every day on here and it annoys me to fuck.

but i like getting excited about signing top players and i get pissed at the thought of going for the likes of lucas neil and kevin davis it gets on my tits when i hear (hes better than what we have ) yeah i think to myself "but he's still shite"

if i'm missing the point spectacularly then sorry. these are my issues and i just wanted that off my chest ! anyone else wanna spew ?

An excellent thread, it seems like the original poster there are loads of us who are uneasy with the attitude of some blues surrounding our transfers, they won't be happy unless these galactico names are signed up.
I haven't got a lot to add to some inciteful posts that have already been made but I think it's fair to say that it mayby the younger demographic that posts away about how imperative it is that we sign kaka, Villa and Tevez etc.
