The damage done by 20 year's inferiority to Man United

People are getting hung up on the agenda and age thing.

I think DDs post was more to do with a general feeling that some of our support worry too much about Utd. Everything revolves around them "what a rag song", "don't be like rags" etc it's constant. And idiotic. Not all rags are cunts, not all city fans aren't cunts. We always be different from them as we have shared different experiences but let's not use the rags to set our compass baring from ffs.

Admittedly I'm biased at the tender age of twenty-four, but I find City fans who grew up with failure are those who I'd rather be in the company of. Stoic, resilient and can find fun and humour anywhere, as we had to in those dark days. Meanwhile, it's the Main Stand moaners from Maine Road, aged 40+, now sitting in CBL3 and EL3, who are the most miserable, complain about everything and who I'd rather avoid.
twenty four? I bet you think a few dour performances under Pearce were the 'dark days', eh?

You were shitting green when my generation were demonstrating outside the main stand every week. You were still collecting conkers when we were trekking to brentford and gillingham.
I've been going to City since 1989. I was 17 when we got relegated to the third division so I remember it well and I have to say that City in that last season under Pearce was the worst I've known being a City fan, I enjoyed the third division much more.

My Garndad is 76 and is always saying stuff like that about United. "what are we singin that for? That's one of their songs" etc. Completely dispelled Dave's "young man's" stuff.

Most people I ever see moaning at Mancini at the ground are 50+.

We should all be comparing everything we do to United, Real Madrid, Bayern München... They are the benchmark, try are exactly who we should be setting our compass to bare from.

I think anything else is called rivalry.

Hear hear!

I've listened for many years how the rag fans spend 90% of their time singing anti City songs. To a point, I can sometimes hear this creeping in with us and I fucking hate it.

We are better than that, we are not arrogant and, most of all, we shouldn't give a shit about the Rags. If they continue to challenge, then fair enough. If they fall from grace, even better.

It's those moaning fuckers in the Colin Bell stand isn't it?

Totally agree from a 20 year old blue here.

I went to school during utds best years and 95% were gobshite rags.

My first thought on sunday being 2-1 wasnt "oh no we could waste a very good oppurtunity for 3 points" it was "fuck me if we fail imagine all the shit i'll get off them lot".

Its a sad state really but im trying. Ive given so much abuse out back at the bastards since aguero scored and i want the glory to carry on.

that season was dull and dispiriting but it was not the darkest days. As someone above said, all the momentum and optimism we'd gained under royle and Keegan had seeped away, along with the money. Its purely a personal thing but I became quite apathetic about city. It seemed we were another everton , Birmingham or Sunderland: doomed to perpetual mediocrity through lack of finance and falling gates.

But the darkest days, the most shocking incredible, awful days were the mid eighties and, even worse, the late nineties. We became the laughing stock of football. Truly the kings of the cock up.

The 99 season has become rose tinted In the minds of many city fans because of how it ended. But for the first half it was truly awful, the lowest of the low. The fans turned on the team, the team were petrified to play. Many of us were looking nervously at burnley, huddersfield and Blackpool and believing we were going to be in nowheresville forever. The season before that when we frittered our money and stared down the barrel at relegation was awful too.

The Pearce era was nothing like as bad as those days.

cheers for your honesty mate. I'm not having a go or boasting but I promise man utd and their fans never entered my head on Sunday.

But don't get me wrong, I loved beating the bastards to the title.
