The damage was done in autumn

couldnt agree more. those draws are the reason we wont get fourth. nothing to do with mancini. ok tonight was a bad result. but drawing to burnley was a lot worse.

the damage was done by the owners dropping a major bollock by not getting rid of hughes straight away and appointing someone they wanted!
instead they let hughes spunk 200 million up the wall on average players.
de jong - not good enough
barry - not good enough
toure - not good enough
bridge - not good enough
santa cruz - not good enough....for mellands on sunday morning!

and if they let mancini spunk another £200mill away, they will be making the same mistake

we are still an "also ran" club with a lot of money and until we start getting some doemstic or european success we wont attract the type of players we all want to see pulling on a blue shirt

We won't get REAL success until we have a credible manager that is there for the long term. We have to build. Let's let just one Manager (who does have the CV) have a try.

The least they could of done was let Hughes stew in his own shit until the end of the season. Now Mancini has the best of both worlds, when it all goes pear shaped blame it on Hughes, if its all honky dorry, Mancini is a tactical wizzard, wink wink not a bad job hey.

i agree about the players but i honestly think even if we get 4th spot it wont be that easy to attract top players.
we have to realise that players are only teenage or twenty something kids and as far as their lifetime we have won fuck all and have no history or pedigree!
it just bugs me that other teams can get a side playing like champs that cost fuck all yet we spend that much on a bunch of clowns.

a bunch of clowns that out played their opposition tonight and got done by poor refereeing, a dodgy freekick and a counter attack.

Sorry I just think you lot moan for the sake of it sometimes, get a grip.

I still consider us to be favourites for 4th

Thats what i call blind optimism, no chance mate, no leaders, a manager and coachinng staff lacking in inventivenes or ideas. A total fucking 200,000 million pound shambles, At least if Hughes was here we could call it his shaambles, but somehow if Hughes had still been a city, i think we wouldd of pulled through. With this clown all we can do now is wait for the axe to fall in May. Ridiculous as usual for us suffering cnuts at City.

Oh, and you dont need hindsight to see we wont get 4th, more chance of Everton getting it.

I agree with you that its a 200 million pound shambles but I still think we will just about get there because of the two six pointers at end. Winning those should be enough for us to stumble over the line but we should count ourselves very fortunate that Liverpool have imploded so spectacularly otherwise we wouldn't have even had a sniff this season.

A lot of the blame for the 200million shambles must be laid at Hughes' door as he is the man that put the team together, but at the same time I don't think the managerial change has helped us at all and we probably would have being doing as well if not better now had Hughes stayed. I'm not a Manicini fan at all so far but if he manages to get us to fourth then he probably deserves to get another crack at it next year and I would hope that after bringing some of his own players in over the summer he will prove the doubters wrong (me included)

what reality? the fact we have a bunch of international players who beat chelsea home and away, arsenal home and got to the semis of the carling cup? the fact that theyve had to gel whilst having injuries, a change of management? the fact we're 5th, have home games against our closest challengers and were unlucky tonight?

I don't see where you lot are coming from to be honest. I think you all need to take a big step back and look at the bigger picture. We can do better, and we will do, I believe Mancini is the right man and that he needs to be guaranteed time, who else will we bring in? nobody, there's no-one more proven who will come and do a better job, and they'd all need to spend money and it's proven Mancini is astute in the transfer market.

You lot are SO SO SO impatient, can't blame you due to the failings of the trigger happy chairmen but I said at the beginning of the season that it's not only a learning curve for the club but the fans, some of you need to grow up and learn patience.

A certain amount of damage was done over that 7 draw period, but that doesn't excuse tonight's gutless show.

It's all well and good being passionate on the touchline, but if you can't get it through to the players then it's useless.

i agree with you over mancini, i want him to stay as well.
like i said earlier imo the owners should have got their own man in from the start.
its not impatience its frustration seeing players being made to look average. you say we outplayed everton, i dont think so. yes we had more of the ball, youd expect that from a team who havent lost at home all season but for me there wasnt enough heart and desire shown tonight.

I think we played the ref more than the opposition, I mean how many players did we get booked for mouthing off at him? a few.

The first goal changed the game, we were too busy feeling sorry for ourselves and the ball just didnt drop for us tonight, I don't think we were that far wrong but I didn't like our attitude towards the ref like we were being persecuted, just get on with the game.

We weren't going to go the whole season unbeaten at home, and we have an atrocious record against Everton, but it's one game and I don't think Roberto's done a lot wrong he's just got to try and make the best of what he's got.

It's not ideal but we have to live by the decisions our owners make, they can't get every decision they make right.

In Autumn we drew a many of the games from losing positions and 2 with ten men, another saving a penalty late on.

The problem we have no is we can't score at home, which is down to the new manager.

or is it the fact our main striker has missed 7 games through stupidity and not performed in many others?

We have played as well with or without Ade. We are starting a Pearce like home run.

for me its the midfield. we just dont have any creativity there. look at everton with arteta and piennar(?), spuds with modric and kranjcar. where is ours??
you cant blame mancini for that though, hughes didnt buy anyone like that either.

We haven't scored for two in a row at home and 80 mins in the stoke home cup before that.

I am concerned about this, maybe our tactics suit away games better than home?

i agree, it was the sacking mid term and after investing with him that i thought was stupid, they should have appointed their man or run with hughes till the end of the season. we looked proper idiots the way we did it,it has also got us precisley nowhere.

-- Thu Mar 25, 2010 8:21 am --

fucking hell, how deluded is this, hull and stoke have beaten us ffs, i suppose if we were 3rd in the table that would be down to hughes only losing 2 games?

To be honest i think you're correct about our tactics suting us more to away games. Take Bellamy for instance he's great at getting in behind the full backs and defenders with his pace and creating chances which he has been able to do in recent away games but thats because he's got the chances to do that due to the home teams pushing up and pushing on. Last night for instance Everton sat deep and he never got the oppurtunity to get in behind Neville so it all came down to is he creative enough with the ball at his feet and defenders in front of him and the answer was no. The same goes for SWP and a couple of other players, against Liverpool and last night we missed having someone who can pick a pass when the other team has men behind the ball

Bluemoon115 called the performance gutless, i'm sorry but i can't agree. It wasn't good enough but it certainly wasn't gutless. We had them pinned in for long spells in the second half but wasn't good enough to break them down and they defended well

I'm glad Ade is back for Monday, i'd start him

Yep Berti. We could have won that game 2-0, gone fourth, and missed the action in the technical area.
