The Detectives: Fighting Organised Crime

I expect you've been on the Found thread all evening tracking down a packet of white powder :-)
After watching that it wont shock you to know that I havent had chance. I went to work on Saturday afternoon and its not an exaggeration to say I came home properly at 7.30pm tonight. Ive grabbed a couple of hours kip and changed my shirt and cleaned my teeth here and there but its been mental. Ive currently got 2 people in comas, one 37 yr old bloke from a vicious assault on Sat night and one 21yr old girl from a drugs overdose this morning. In the middle of that Ive had to manage half of the uniform staff that would help do shit be taken away because a gypsy wedding went pop and 12 were arrested for possessing guns, swords and machetes while 6 are in hospital, one with a wound from a sword that has exposed his spine. No shit.

The abuse of the right to silence is a criminals charter.
People like that big twat should be shackled throughout/and or tasered when threatening Officers.
Used to be plenty of 6ft 5" ex Rugby/military male cops to deal with these scum , the high level of senior women police officers have limitations in front line enforcement.
I really wouldn't have a problem if the police just shot these scum on arrest.

Thanks for all you do.

Yeah, but have you got a proper job?

These documentaries are always a morbidly fascinating watch. I guess a lot of us growing up in certain parts of Manchester knew plenty of people like this and have probably even socialised with them on occasion. I have certainly drank in the company of a couple of brothers who were a bit rum back in the day in Wythenshawe and had the same surname as the one in the baseball cap who was found not guilty. It's not inconceivable he is a relative.

I was on the periphery for a while, my saving grace was very good parents and going away to sea at the age of seventeen. Others without that stability I could easily see how they would be sucked in. The difference now is the drugs and money involved and the level of ruthless gratuitous violence that is used without any morals, empathy or principles. Most involved are from families steeped in criminality and violence so I guess it's no surprise as the new generations come through they appear to be worse than their predecessors.

The female solicitors behaviour was an eye opener and a bit of a shock. She was more like a gangsters moll than a qualified professional and acted like the former.

The terrifying thing for the general public is imagine looking the wrong way at one of these people when out and about. Your poor average Joe wouldn't have a hope in hell.

Good man, thanks for all you do mate.

I watched it and it's so depressing on a humanitarian level. All that anger. Everywhere.

They are not happy people with carefree lives. All they have is aggression.

There isn't much to admire about their chosen careers, and nothing to aspire to.

Thankfully, decent folk like Uncle Wally do their best to rid us of those miserable specimens and lock them up.

The world would be an intolerable place if those disturbed individuals were given a free reign over us.

The right to silence is an American thing, isn't it? It's been a long time since I watched The Bill, but ours is "it may harm your defence if you don't mention when questioned something you may later rely on in court" which suggests that sitting there in silence isn't necessarily a good tactic in the UK.

You have my utmost respect for trying to keep our streets safe from all these lowlifes

The Fifth Amendment enumerate multiple rights, but the ones most people think of when discussing the issue are the right to silence to avoid self-incrimination, protection from double jeopardy, and the right to due process.

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation.

After watching that first episode, I’m happy to take my chances in Chicago, with my own guns! Coincidentally, I spent a very nice afternoon at the range today, putting holes in targets from 7 meters. Needless to say, the paper didn’t survive! ;-)

The episode was nothing more than bullies committing extreme violence and torture for money. The threatening behavior of the primary perp while at the Police Station would have been fun to watch in an American station or jail. If you mess with the bull, you get the horns!

I noticed the name Carlos Buller. Is he a descendant of the Withington Bullers of the late 60s/early 70s?

Scratch the grey surface of Manchester and you see how badly it has gone to shit! Reminds me why I am always happy to get off the plane when I land back in the States! If I could find a nice cottage in the Peak or Lake Districts, maybe, but nearly everything I see in the Lakes requires some local residency bullshit! Ah, freedom!

Id rather take my chances in Manchester. Less chance of getting wiped out in a mass shooting like those poor bastards in Colorado. Or getting the phone call that someone has gone into my daughter’s school and shot her.

Most people’s lives are nothing like that. We don’t get the mass shootings that seem to be a daily occurrence. We probably don’t get as many corporates killing members of the public by rubbishing a business rival’s vaccine either.

I’ve just watched “The Detectives” on catch up and what great work by the Manchester coppers.

The reason why the suspects aren’t physically restrained is mainly because of deaths in police custody, including accused who didn’t respond because of mental health problems. Others no doubt were violent criminals.
