The Detectives: Fighting Organised Crime

I watched it and it's so depressing on a humanitarian level. All that anger. Everywhere.

They are not happy people with carefree lives. All they have is aggression.

There isn't much to admire about their chosen careers, and nothing to aspire to.

Thankfully, decent folk like Uncle Wally do their best to rid us of those miserable specimens and lock them up.

The world would be an intolerable place if those disturbed individuals were given a free reign over us.

The right to silence is an American thing, isn't it? It's been a long time since I watched The Bill, but ours is "it may harm your defence if you don't mention when questioned something you may later rely on in court" which suggests that sitting there in silence isn't necessarily a good tactic in the UK.

Ive grabbed a couple of hours kip and changed my shirt and cleaned my teeth here and there but its been mental. The Fifth Amendment enumerate multiple rights, but the ones most people think of when discussing the issue are the right to silence to avoid self-incrimination, protection from double jeopardy, and the right to due process.

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation.
 
After watching that first episode, I’m happy to take my chances in Chicago, with my own guns! Coincidentally, I spent a very nice afternoon at the range today, putting holes in targets from 7 meters. Needless to say, the paper didn’t survive! ;-)

The episode was nothing more than bullies committing extreme violence and torture for money. The threatening behavior of the primary perp while at the Police Station would have been fun to watch in an American station or jail. If you mess with the bull, you get the horns!

I noticed the name Carlos Buller. Is he a descendant of the Withington Bullers of the late 60s/early 70s?

Scratch the grey surface of Manchester and you see how badly it has gone to shit! Reminds me why I am always happy to get off the plane when I land back in the States! If I could find a nice cottage in the Peak or Lake Districts, maybe, but nearly everything I see in the Lakes requires some local residency bullshit! Ah, freedom!

Id rather take my chances in Manchester. Less chance of getting wiped out in a mass shooting like those poor bastards in Colorado. Or getting the phone call that someone has gone into my daughter’s school and shot her.

Most people’s lives are nothing like that. We don’t get the mass shootings that seem to be a daily occurrence. We probably don’t get as many corporates killing members of the public by rubbishing a business rival’s vaccine either.
 
I’ve just watched “The Detectives” on catch up and what great work by the Manchester coppers.

The reason why the suspects aren’t physically restrained is mainly because of deaths in police custody, including accused who didn’t respond because of mental health problems. Others no doubt were violent criminals.
