Saw this on another City site; sums it up pretty much for me:
Sunday Supplement Tue - 23 Nov Written by Derry
Not normally one for doing this, but after seeing the Sunday Supplement, I felt we deserved a right of reply.
In an 8 minute segment toward the end of the show we saw all that is wrong with Fleet Street’s finest in the performances of Paul Smith of the Daily Mirror and Rob Beasley of The Sun. No doubt these two have reputations for “giving it to you straight” or some other such hackneyed strap line, but their joint attack on City was genuinely shameful
The segment was nothing short of slanderous, as they trotted out accusation after accusation of a lack of class, dignity and morals. Not one shred of evidence to back up anything they said was proffered, but to use another of Fleet Street’s favourite sayings “why let the facts get in the way of a good story”.
Even a cursory analysis shows these individuals up for what they are.
Smith’s shot across the bows was that our “…whole structure is nonsense…” and all this in spite of “…spending £300m in the summer…” He followed this up with Mancini being an “arrogant manager” adding a “good manager wouldn’t do this” when talking about how we run things at our club.
After that onslaught, displaying a distinct lack of ability in the maths department, he sunk his own boat by lauding Mourinho’s management style; yes the self titled “Special One”.
Priceless.
His final shot, as his clung steadfastly to Titanic, was City’s owner “…has more money than sense…” This would be the same owner that bailed out Barclays, making a cool £1 billion profit in the process? Clearly His Royal Highness has no sense, but fortunately for us, plenty of money.
Moving away from the nautical analogies, and as we head inexorably onto Christmas, let’s have something more relevant!
Next up on the show, panto season arrived in explosive fashion when Widow Twanky; whoops, Rob Beasley decided Smith was getting too much of the limelight.
Beasley stated City are “…the richest club in the world…but are morally bankrupt…” and laid his own golden egg that we have “…loads of cash, no class…” Nice ring to it that; might even get it on a t-shirt! Seriously. It must have been meant ironically as he then went on to praise Chelsea’s spending! “…if you’ve got the money, then go and spend it, that’s legitimate…” Speaking of class, would this be the same Chelsea who so classlessly and ham-fistedly sacked Ray Wilkins? Still, I digress.
Sadly for Beasley on Sunday, City didn’t provide him with his desire for a ‘they all lived happily ever after’ finish on Sunday, after he had loudly chimed at the end of the segment “football wants Fulham to win”.
So, slander, slander and more slander.
I know the club are looking at it and we are lead to believe they have taken a dim view. I would personally love us to see them on the courthouse steps but I’m no lawyer and I don’t work for City. However, what we can do is to let these parasites, these bottom feeders, know what we think of them at games whilst they are all in the pressbox at Eastlands. I’m sure the opinions they espouse from the safety of a tv studio are a tad different to the ones given when faced with 45,000+ baying fans.
