The English Pirlo. That man from Hastings

Gaz reminds me of Wiekens in a sense that his football brain is brilliant, its only his pace that let's him down. Both him and Nige are two of the first names on the teamsheet, they're both equally vital. Sabster just doesn't like Nige, and that Dick Leighton has a vendetta against certain players, its not hard to fathom which type they are....

For me its about the team... every player has his role and we are now very fortunate to have both de Jong and Barry complementing each other... no one is bigger or better than the other... the thing is they complement each other and click very well together... when one is missing on the pitch the other cant be as effective as if both plays... Barry is one heck of a footballer in the sense that he does the little but yet very effective stuff noone else actually can do in the same way!

You know when de jong makes a crunching last minute tackle and the crowd get up and shout "get in de jong" "de jong, de jong, de jong de jong de jong" and then start singing "oh when de jong, goes sliding in". Well Mr slow coach has already done the same thing, expect he hasn't gone sliding in at 100mph. He has quietly mopped up which goes unnoticed and unappreciated to the paying public's eye.

He is loved by Mancini and Capello and Benitez wanted to get rid of Alonso to free up funds to buy him. There is reason's for this, just watch the game more closely.
Brilliant post.

I don't even look in those threads anymore, but I guarantee that those 'what is our strongest XI if Nasri signs?' threads are full of teams without Gaz. In fact, I'll be surprised if there's any more than even 1 or 2 teams that include him.

But Bobby will start him at Bolton and that's all that matters.

Read all ten pages of this. Good read and some very intelligent posts.

I tend to agree that Barry and De Jong compliment each other well, but I think that only works in a mid-field three. In a 4-4-2 I think it takes Barry and Milner, or Barry and Yaya, Or Dejong and Yaya and so on. Barry's first season here we tried them two on their own, and it didn't look nearly as effective as barry-dejong-yaya, in which Barry and Yaya have freedom to go forward.

I will be interested to see where Nasri fits in, and I think Mancini is still trying to figure out where Milner figures in. In the end, I think it will be different line ups and formations for different games and competitions, away legs, etc.

I dont have any vendetta against any players at the club. I have criticised many players who hasnt it doesnt mean I have a vendetta on anyone. I criticised Hart last season when he went into a bad patch mainly because we had another top class keeper on the bench at the time. I have praised many players as well from Richards and Lescott at the back end of last season. I done the same with Yaya and Barry last season the only difference Yaya can be World Class as Barry will never be anywhere near that level in my view. It seems to me that you are not able to have a different view on players on this board anymore. If we all had the same view this place would be shit.

<a class="postlink" href="http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/18042011/58/premier-league-proof-barry-really-slow.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/18042011/ ... -slow.html</a>

Im summary, the article presents data that shows Barry to be city's slowest play, but also our player who covers the most distance during a game. His distance covered - nearly 8 miles - is bettered by only 2 other players in the league (meireles and sir joey of barton).

So while the Barry-haters are quick to jump on his lack of pace, claiming that this makes him "not an athlete," his impressive endurance is often overlooked.

the same article states that Barry's top speed exceeds Essien's... i don't see the mob of chavs outside of SB demanding a better option than him...

your view has been the same since he came to the club on form or not even in games he has been man of the match you have found criticism so yes i would class it as a vendetta.

Just because I dont rate Barry doesnt mean I have a vendetta against him. I still support the player and would never boo him or wish anything bad on him it just that in my view there is better players than Barry.

So, if I'm to believe this thread Barry's qualities are:

Passing sideways
Holding his position
Hitting a diagonal 30 yard ball accurately approximately once every 38 games
Giving away silly free kicks

Yep, I can see why Mancini, Capello, and Benitez rate him.

Calm , cool and collected. Gareth Barry may do his job very quietly , but he does it very efficiently and effectively . On Monday night , I thought he was magnificent , the best of the three central midfield players out there , I was surprised not to see a thread earlier. He may make 2 yard passes and get beat by a tortoise in a foot race , but he is a tremendous player . He always somehow gets singled out if we lose or draw , but he never ever really does anything wrong. He is a very good player and one we should be pleased to have .
