The Factions of Bluemoon

We should do one of those quadrants like the one for where you are on the political spectrum.

Typical questions could be ones like:

1) What do you think of Hughes:
a) Never wanted him because of his rag past
b) Not good enough - get rid
c) Too soon to judge. Not had enough time yet.
d) Doing a good job and will win us trophies

2) £47 for Spurs midweek;
a) I go regardless so will pay it anyway
b) Bit steep but will see nearer the time
c) Would go but no way I'm paying this
d) Don't go to away games anyway

3) Barm or muffin?
a) Barm
b) Muffin
c) I use whatever term the locals use
d) Couldn't care less

4) Booing
a) I would never boo the team
b) I would boo if they haven't won a game I think they should have
b) I would boo only if they've been exceptionally bad
c) I've paid for a ticket and I'll do whatever I like

5) Singing
a) I sing my heart out at every game
b) I usually joing in, particularly at away games
c) I'll sing at a derby or other big match if everyone else is
d) If I wanted to sing I'd join a choir

1. b
2. a
3. a
4. a
5. b

I'd say theres two different factions.

People you have got time for

and people you just ignore there posts.

Well, I would argue that there are some people who you differ from so much you click on their posts to argue back.

Thats because I'm a "Confrontational Rationlist", not a "Compliant Rationalist".

I find all this navel-gazing a bit self-indulgent personally. The minute these internet forums become more about the posters who are on them as opposed to the topics they are discussing, I find they lose their appeal quite rapidly.

That's what I've always quite liked about BM as opposed to another City forum I used to post on, which just seemed to become a vanity vehicle for 5 or 6 narcissistic posters to indulge their over-inflated opinions of themselves. Topics were started innocently, but ended up descending into the same petty squabbles time after time, on the same points, with the same agruments expressed over and over again. It genuinely seemed like these people went on to the site specifically to bicker with eachother as opposed to to discuss City. The cult of personailty developed to the extent that entire threads ended up getting started based solely on a couple of the worst culprits arguing with eachother like a pair of kids - reminded me of pre-arranged 'fights' at a designated time in the playground at school where everyone would gather round to watch 2 kids pulling eachother's hair and shoving eachother round - pathetic, really.

I guess the point of my rambling post is that I hope BM doesn't end up like this, with a few self-indulgent posters dragging the board down to serve their own vanity and play out their childish game of one-upmanship, until it becomes a tedious, self-referential bore, obsessed with itself as opposed to providing a genuine platform for discussing City. I suppose the more I hear of terms like 'Tubthumpers'/'Hughes Innies'/'Hughes Outies', and all that crap, the more I fear this is the route the board is taking.

No offence intended to the OP, by the way - just expressing a concern that I have.

Totally agree with Optimus Prime. Bluemoon was like that when I first started coming on here, I'm glad it's changed and hope it stays the same.

Damocles made what I think is a fascinating observation of another thread, one which I see as worthy of it's own debate, seeing as we've had no match to discuss and Hughes/Robinho In/Out has got boring. He discussed the various factions of BLuemoon in an interesting way:

I see four major posting groups currently:

The rationalists, such as JohnMaddocksAxe will usually sit and think of an opinion and try to eloquent it the best they can, hoping that they will get an opinion back which counteracts theirs in a justified way. They want participation, but only in a certain manner, and usually the same manner that they put one forward in. This thread is full of these.

The comedian posters such as Pam, will sit and think of witty responses or snappy comments to compliment an argument. This could also be a funny picture, or even a link to something else. The LESCOTT OUT thread is full of these.

All in all, the above two groups co-exist peacefully, and generally the forum goes runs smoothly.

The other two factions are usually consisting of the same people each time, who have a 'religious war' over certain topics. Currently, it is positivity vs negativity, where both camps truly believe that their way is the true way towards forum utopia and will sling wild and baseless accusations against each other. Their argument usually consists of trying to make the person who posted an opinion look bad, therefore making the point look bad. This used to be Hughes In/Hughes Out and before, Thasin In/Thaskin Out.

The forum would be a hugely boring place without these people, but if one side overruns the other, it becomes a bitter and hate-filled place. It's about balance.

I've currently spent over 20 hours a day, for the past 4 days, refreshing a page on BM every 5 minutes (to get Skynet v2 to index every word ever posted on the forum, without actually taking the forum down), so I've been making a few social observations.
Alternatively, this is all bullshit and I've gone insane from pressing F5, and am making up things in my head.

I think that's an interesting observation.

I'd add a couple more factions:

Tubthumpers (younger) - These are the guys who see support as a proactive thing, a duty. They cannot understand how anyone doesn't stand up, sing and wear colours at a match. They will post about atmosphere or the poor turnout at a cup game, really angry.

Tubthumpers (Older) - These guys are older versions of the above. They slag off the whole of Bluemoon as "negative" and wander around telling people to piss off to Old Trafford or that we've never had it so good.

Ah good, nice to know I'm a self-assessed absentee from this faction. It was the bracketed bit that had me wondering. Thought there was going to an ageist post coming along!

Point taken but the thread's only a bit of fun, really. Maybe it does come across a bit po-faced.

It's only a football forum when all's said and done...if a bloody addictive one...

Dave, clearly I am someone who is proactive about support although I am not one to critisize someone for not turning up (despite living 150 miles away from Manchester and not missing a home and away game since Feb!) so would I be a young tubthumper or not?
